I have just had a Chorus contractor on site to start installing the cable from the boundary to the house, which his instructions were to fix the cable to the boundary fence and then run it along another fence which comes off that to the house. but I have stopped this as I never had a person come to site to do the initial scope, it seems that Chorus used Google maps to do the external siting. Even this was wrong, as the scoped area was on the wrong road boundary (I am on a corner site). The problem is that the fence between the boundary and the house is going to be removed at the end of winter to increase the yard area and build a new fence (nowhere near the existing). So I asked for the cable to be laid in a trench through the front lawn (shorter distance than along the fence). The contractor cannot do this as it costs more and they would not be paid to do it.
He said that they would do it at charge to me of $500.00 to dig a trench about 14m long and lay the cable, "hang on" at the Chorus web site it gives the option of having a shallow cable laid through the lawn to the house, yet now it seems that they won't do this because of the cost. I was told this by the Chorus support person that I spoke to on the phone.
So I have now phoned Spark and cancelled my upgrade to fiber and will stick to VDSL at present. In some ways I am glad, as the Chorus support rep reckons that Spark are having teething problems with the phone over fiber.
Okay I know this isn't the end of the world stuff, just wanted to let out some frustration, as I was looking forward to changing to fiber for the faster upload speed.
