think about the support overhead when a cert all of a sudden expires, customer uses direct ip rather than the domain... or even, It's selfsigned.

 

 

 

All these are major red flags in most browsers.

 

Annoyingly, certain browsers such as Oprea.... also moan about non secure sites too.

It's a pain but at least with Firefox you can add an exception pretty easily. Not sure on Chrome.
