eXDee: Any idea what goes on in the testing process? This is a model that's been very successful overseas. What exactly are they checking?

At the end of the day, coverage maps published by a network operator expect the end user
(Customer) is using a mobile device that is rated/proven to certain
standards/conditions.

So, there will be a bunch of documents to be inspected and if you look at other Mobile Operator Acceptance Tests overseas, these are the documents each mobile device manufacturer provides to the network operator (TNZ):

A SAR Test Report (just like the FCC get)
Some sort of GSM RF Compliance Test Report (Sure, no GSM on the XT network, but during an emergency the device will drop to GSM, and of course when roaming use GSM when WCDMA isn't available)
WCDMA RF Compliance Test Report (prove a standard)
WLAN Compliance Test Report (wifi compliance)
Throw in a Bluetooth certification (why test if it's certified ok)
Power Supply Compliance Certificate (NZ power supply requirements)
PTCRB and GCF Certificates
2G and 3G IOT Reports
SIM/OTA Signally/OMA compliance reports (maybe)

In addition, if the operator (TNZ) has customisation then the device manufacturer creates a file of these parameters, to be validated/tested by the operator (TNZ). Examples would be 111/emergency calling, voicemail, bookmarks, testing with TNZs portal like Yahoomobile, digital content DRM testing, special predictive text words.

Then, of course, there's the actual testing...

The Samsung Galaxy S i9000 that Noel Leeming and Bond and Bond are selling now, does that work with Telecom XT ? It says Edge 850Mhz on the box along with 900/1900 etc.. but does not say 2100Mhz

I want to buy it on Interest free terms if they can give me mobile on interest free ? LOL

I dont have a vodafone chip and I want to keep my XT running (gives me good speeds of data).

Any info appreciated.

No. Telecom is 3G, EDGE is not 3G.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, does it mean the ones that are sold in Noel Leeming does not work with XT ? I am a constant user in Auckland only, are the speeds slow in auckland ? or does it only effect if you are outside auckland ?

I was intending to buy it this weekend. I will rather wait for telecom version to come out in that case.

- Thanks for you help

Sorry only just joined in the chat now and read your last post and first. Are you after a Galaxy S that works on XT? The ones Noel Leeming sell will work with only VF.

I called up Noel Leeming (Sylvia Park and St. Lukes) - both have advised it should be no problem to get it working on XT. I had my own doubts, so wanted to clarify. I really want to buy that phone on XT network but unsure where i can find one.

You will buy at your own risk. Look at the box. If it doesn't say "WCDMA 850" then *** IT WILL NOT WORK ON XT***.

Is it clear now? The Samsung Galaxy is coming to Telecom at some point. Why don't you just wait?

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I am very clear now :) Thank you.
I guess I will wait for Telecom to release their version that supports their network.

Telecom is "Releasing the Samsung Galaxy S" 29th October. If you chuck a telecom simcard into the Vodafone version it will work in Auckland... and thats about it. Because Vodafone dont use true 3G thoughout the country, 2G from about the Bombays onwards you convert to the older frequency which telecom dont support legacy technology now.

Also the new Nokia N8, heard from a very good source first week of next month for Telecom.

Vodafone uses "true" 3G, just in a different band. Vodafone uses 900/2100MHz WCDMA and Telecom uses 850MHz WCDMA. They are all "true" 3G.

I think you'll find that Telecom have 2100MHz coverage in more areas than Auckland. However, relying upon 2100MHz coverage only with a Telecom SIM is akin to flying in a lead plane; Unadvisable.

Yes, you can. Look for the sticky posts in our forums for the configuration info you need.
