lagbort:

Running a Netgear R7000,

Have been following recommendations online but just cant quite break into the 600Mbps range or higher.

Unsure if that is expected around my address or if I actually do have a configuration issue or even if I should replace the router.

Same router and issue.

On Smallnetbuilder the Netgear R7000 WAN to LAN Throughput is 931.4 Mbps, so I don't think its the router.

Setup:

All new cat6 Ethernet cables 2 at 1.5m

Only computer connected to router R7000

Connected to Intel I210 motherboard Gigabit port

i7 quad on z97-ws with Sangsum 950 pro.

Any ideas?

I have been fiddling around with the router over the last day or so and so far haven't managed to fix this.

However I did find reference online to a bug where the traffic meter setting is actually on but not shown as being on, I found that turning on the traffic meter had no impact on my speeds (where most people say it should roughly halve your throughput) leading me to believe I may have the bug.

Unable to test it remotely but tonight I will do a full factory reset and possibly a firmware downgrade and see if I can get any result

I think my 600 odd down and 400 odd up is due to being in an apartment on the 8th floor.

There's probably a whole heap of equipment the traffic goes through.

@ScuL I note in the signature you appear to be on 200/20 "Pro" plan - you'll need to upgrade to the Elite plan to experience Gigabit. It is available anywhere now.

Yea I didn't want to upgrade to Elite unless I was absolutely sure I could obtain Gigabit. Hence why the Chorus checker is confusing

Hi I had the same messsage from the chorus address checker that only 200/200 so I rang chorus and they said that the address checker was wrong so I now have gigabit :) Give them a call.

^There's no need to call Chorus. As long as you have fibre with Bigpipe you can get gigabit.

Hardware: R7000 Running Tomato Shibby 1.32 AIO-64K. To achieve gigabit I simply enabled CTF (Cut-Through Forwarding).

The R7000 can certainly handle the throughput. At first I thought it wouldn't, as I could only get 300MB up and down before enabling CTF. I don't think stock NetGear firmware can cut it, so you need 3rd party.

Fibre is fibre. It makes no difference where you're located.

Am I dreaming, or has the advertising on their site changed to 700-900/400-500 from 1000/500 when I looked a few weeks ago?

Just build myself a $400~ router/NAS/media combo box for my fibre install next week.  Bit of a fun project to better understand enterprise firewalls and make the most of the 'Gig'.

Server 2016 running Sophos UTM 9 in a VM

I'm excited to see how it performs on Gigabit UFB.  I'm under the impression it should smash Gigabit even with full inspection and probably be capable of gig VPN throughput due to AES-NI being supported.

Dual Core G4400 Pentium, 8GB LAN, B150M Asrock Motherboard, 120GB SSD, 400W PSU came to just over $400 - I unfortunately don't have a watt meter to see it's power usuage.

Added in a 4port PCI-E Intel Nic (I350-T4) and a 2x4port mini sas raid controller I got off ebay a while ago...

In production in my cupboard running double nat to a crappy slingshot VDSL box at the moment but I'm excited to move it over!
