That's a wireless test. I'm afraid there are too many variables to try and troubleshoot that. If you are concerned about the underlying performance of the FibreMax service you'll need to test using a decent spec machine and gigabit ethernet directly to the router.

Recently moved to FibreMax with Spark, performance has been good. Upstream could probably be better, but it's so much better than the old plan that I've put no timer in to figuring it out. Also, there's a huge difference between Ethernet and wifi (much more pronounced than on lower speed plans), if that helps some realise just how important testing over ethernet is to validate the actual fibre connection performance.
Desktop on ethernet (Speedtest.net in a browser)
Mobile device on Wifi (Speedtest.net app, Wifi connection settings reporting ~650Mbps link speed)

Exactly my experience as reported above - but I got shouted down here. Same gear as you and similar speeds. I had an HG659g then went out and bought a new Spark Smart Modem. Made no difference - even on Ethernet.
You were nicely asked to start a new thread for your issue. Where people (inc myself) would have been more than happy to help. I don't think that is being shouted down - just trying to keep a thread on topic.

I understand i wont get full speeds over wifi, but would have thought i'd get closer to 800Mbps?
Maybe what you thought is actually wrong. And why do you need close to Gb on a mobile device???
Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Thanks, I appreciate that. Some others were less gracious.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

My plan change to Fibre Max was completed this morning but my download speeds appear to max out around 300-320Mbps.
This is being tested over wifi standing next to the router (HG659b) using 5Ghz on my iphone 11 pro and macbook pro.
I understand i wont get full speeds over wifi, but would have thought i'd get closer to 800Mbps?
Is there a setting i need to change for the new speeds? I've restarted both the ONT and router.
Thanks
EDIT - just tested over ethernet on my macbook pro and still getting max speeds of ~320Mbps
Just an update on this.
I factory reset the modem and tested (over ethernet) using the speedtest app and website on both chrome and safari.
I now get the full ~900/500 speeds on the app and safari, but for some reason chrome is showing consistently lower speeds (around 300-500 download).
Wifi on all devices is still capped at around ~300 down and ~200 up. I assume this is a limitation of the HG659b? Will the new Smart Modem or Smart Modem 2 allow for faster wifi speeds?
I just got this email from Spark
Hi there,
Your broadband plan gives you reliable internet through the Fibre network. However, most of New Zealand’s Fibre companies have increased the cost for us to connect to the Fibre network. So we’re increasing the price of your Unplan Netflix Fibre 100 with Landline plan by $1 a month, mostly to cover the extra cost of the connection.
You’ll see the new price on your bill from 23 November 2021.
Regards,

My home is Apple based, as per my forum signature profile, and I also achieve similar readings as the above two posters have on my own Ethernet and WiFi network using Sparks 1st generation Spark Smart Modem. Would upgrading to their 2nd generation Spark Smart Modem 2 make any difference ?
I some how doubt it. Whether this is a WiFi symptom of Sparks modem/s or our iDevices in general or the international WiFi protocol for WiFi hardware, software or both, I do not know as I am not that technical or knowledgable in this area.
It would be a help from someone that is knowledgable in these things to comment, in layman's teams.
Thanks.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
Plug your Apple TV 4k in with ethernet and run speed test from that. What result do you get?

Ok I installed the Ookla SpeedTest App (https://www.speedtest.net/) for Apple TV and oh dear this is dismal.
95.5Mbps down & 94.1Mbps Up. Not that these speeds have affected my viewing experience.
This is my Ethernet output setup on my Spark Smart Modem 1st gen with latest automatic update v6.00.18 build02
Ethernet port 1 > Airport Time Capsule 5th gen > iMac
Ethernet port 2 > Powered 4 port Ethernet splitter > TV, PVR, AVR & Apple TV 4k 64Gb (2nd gen)
Ethernet port 3 > Solar system hub

Network switch? Is this old and limited to 100Mb? Might be labelled fast ethernet. That would account for the ATV speedtest.

You're probably right, but how useful do you think that terminology is when fault finding here for the layman?

It is an Edimax EX-3305P fast Ethernet Desktop Switch and you are correct it is limited to 100Mb. As I said it has never interfered with our viewing experience.
