Hi:

I have an XT mobile phone and we deal a bit with certain organisations in Singapore.  As part of their online transactions, and for security purposes, they send text messages to our mobiles phones in order to complete those transactions.  Those organisations have confirmed that they do indeed handle overseas/international mobiles, as long as the number is provided as +6427xxxxxxx.

The thing is, I used to receive those text messages and it used to work in the past, right until mid Dec 2011 when it stopped working all of a sudden.

The originating number is a "standard" Singapore number, and with the number +65xxxxxxxx (65 is Singapore's country code).  I have checked with the organisation and they have confirmed that they have our correct cell phone number, and also those messages have been sent successfully, but we have never received them.

Also, for the record, a friend of mine, who is on 2 Degrees, also deals with the same organisations and it works fine for him, just not us on XT.

I have also checked and tried sending text messages from my Skype account ot my cell phone and I am able to receive them.

Anyone has any ideas what could be the issue?

there are a bunch of threads on here - geekzone - about internation sms's not reaching new Zealand networks. XT apparently has some sort of drop policy which is harsher than the others. perhaps you might be best to log a call with the XT helpdesk and go from there

Thanks for your reply.

I actually did contact the XT Helpdesk prior to posting my query here on GZ but XT Helpdesk is saying that there was no known issue about receiving SMS's from Singapore or any particular mobile number, hence I have been left with nowhere.

I did try to get it to SMS a friend's Vodafone number last night and it works, but just wouldn't work on our XT numbers so I think there really must be something that XT is dropping.  Not sure what else I could go since XT doesn't seem to be acknowledging the issue and want to investigate.

Nope both numbers have been with XT all alonG, unless you consider a move from the old 025 to 027 (on CDMA then) as ported.

One of the number is 0274xxxxxx and it was formerly an 025 number, the other is 0279xxxxxx and was just recently acquired directly from XT on a new prepaid SIM.

Can you advise the organisation to log a fault with their carrier/service provider.  As John pointed inbound SMS faults should generally be investigated by the originating carrier/service provider as we have no visibility of how they are sending these to us.

Thanks for your replies guys.  We have indeed asked the originating organisation to log a query/fault with their provider., altho their interim response has been that the message was successfully sent.

I'll try and query/pursue them again and see what I can get out of it.

Just cause a SMS is sent does not mean it's going to get delivered, The A party carrier should be looking into it further
