I have for some months now been noticing a gradual decline in the SMS service level - there are some days where most SMS's get dropped.

It is extremely annoying, especially if you have a device built for txt'in (like the Treo's).  When calling the Telecom service they expect you to provide 3 specific instances with accurate "send" times, etc. - which is a rather ridiculous attempt to shift the effort to the client in my view.

I'm starting to get really peeved about this - for one because I rely on SMS a lot in my work, but secondly because I have yet to see a Telecom bill with a discount for "service interruptions".

Casual conversations with other Telecom users suggest that other people are experiencing this as well...  Any thoughts on what to do with this?  Customer service is useless - so who do we deal with??

What I've been told, customer service and help desk there has only a piece of paper on their desk tell them what to say.

I experience the same thing, international text.. got charge for it but service unavailable. Complain after complain I sent. At the end was my solicitor called them. All sorted, now I can send and receive no problem.

I've had a couple of mates on Telecom complain that large numbers of SMS's to Vodafone have been disappearing into thin air. How many others are experiencing this?

I'm on Telecom and my flatmate has Vodafone. 80% of text I sent, had not been received. On a particular vodafone phone is really bad. I sent my phone number to my friend who sat next to me on a bus. No show.

And a severe delay between Telecom phones too. A text to my boss that I had finished the task I got me on didn't arrive until a week later.

Edit: I want to change but can't be bother telling everyone new number, especially telling my mom..

Skykissme: I beleive that 1 April is the start date for number portability, so you should be about to change providers and take your number with you.

As for missing/delayed texts, I wonder if it is related to any changes Telecom made to fix the SMS privacy bug that made headlines a while back?

Ive experienced the issue when sending to "the dark side" but not when sending Telecom to Telecom. My friends on the other network have told me they have the issue when texting others on their network and when texting Telecom.

i belev telecom needs to make upgrades to there network to make sure it can handle the the text messages but the fat is this telecom has 10$ text and most people these days have mobile phones and the network will get congested more so at the beging of the month

I am sorry to reply like this, but what you believe may not be what is in fact happening. Do you possess any knowledge of current Telecom's network status, capabilities and planned expansions? If not, then you are not presenting facts, and we should ask other people reading this to discard this evidence.

If you are not willing to comply with a simple request like...

"When calling the Telecom service they expect you to provide 3 specific instances with accurate "send" times, etc. - which is a rather ridiculous attempt to shift the effort to the client in my view."

... then why should they do anything? I think its unreasonable to refuse to take 1 minute of your day to collate send times on three entire text messages that failed (after all, they do happen to you a lot), yet you expect the company to run around after you and fix the problem?

Once again, if its so important to you ("really peeved" "I rely on SMS a lot for work"), why is it that you think its too much work to take sixty seconds for you to write down the time and destination number of three fails?

Basically you are saying "Its broken, but I wont tell you about specific instances because I dont have one minute to spare, yet you have to fix it."

Correct me if im wrong...

I rang and gave some examples of failures today and the CSR was really helpful. I mean its not like they dont want your texts to get through. :-)
