Hi all

I've just spent the weekend trying to figure out why I'm getting less than 1Mbps from our Bigpipe VDSL connection. It's fine (>10 Mbps) in the mornings but from 3-4pm onwards it slows to a crawl (often less than 1 Mbps) and is unusable.

It's just started doing this in the last week and only seems to occur at peak times.

I've tried 2 modems. One is a Technicolor TG589vn v2 and the other is a D-Link DSL-2870B, so I'm pretty sure it's not the modem.

I'm pretty sure we've got a master splitter. Telecom installed vdsl here recently  so assume it's been done properly (the jackpoint has a VDSL sticker on it).

Now Bigpipe are telling me that it's probably our wiring and that we need to pay for an electrician to come and have a look at it:

"Just an update. Chorus have advised your sync rates 23192/8584kbps have been consistent since your connection. Chorus ran a 24 hr analyser on the 17th-18th, they confirmed your speeds 12.5 Mb/s downstream traffic and 7Mb/s upstream traffic.

The results above are basically stating there's no network issue. Unfortunately this means there could be wiring issues. You would have to arrange to get an electrician to asses your wiring. Over time wiring corrodes which slows down speeds dramatically. We can assist you with getting a recommended electrician out to asses however you would have to foot the bill."

Here is the info from the Technicolor modem. Can anyone shed some light on what the cause might be? Thanks in advance.

doesn't sound quite right.

Did you let us know you already have a splitter?  If we're not aware that you have one, then wiring is a pretty common culprit for poor speeds on VDSL.

Can you PM me your email address and I'll have a look into your ticket.

Cheers

To me, that doesn't look like a wireing issue. Do you have something else (online backup) scheduled that is taking up the bandwidth?

Are you sure you're not doing anything to saturate your upstream? There have been a number of such posts on here from people on here recently complaining about downstream performance because who have all discovered it's because they're saturating their upstream.
