We've recently changed to VDSL and have had to get a new modem. We originally got a modem which had problems with the wireless signal cutting out and having reduced speed. We have since replaced that modem with the Dlink 2877AL. We are unable to connect to the internet using this modem. The green light for DSL is on but there is a red light showing under Internet. During the setup wizard we put the following settings in:

Internet connection type :VDSL
Country: New Zealand
Internet service provider: Others
802.1q: Activated
VlanID:10
Protocol:PPPoE
MTU: 1492
Username:Bigpipe
Password:Bigpipe

These were the only options given to us, we were unable to set the VCI and VPI during this process as they never came up. There are heaps of options that are able to be changed in the advanced settings but I don't know what they should be set to or what they do.

After putting in the above settings the modem 'internet' light turned red, indicating a failed internet connection according to the manual.
After ringing the dlink helpline they have said that the problem is connected to the settings that we have inputted that were provided by our isp.

We were able to play around with some settings which allowed us to get internet despite the red light still showing. The setting that allowed it to work was the IPV6RD setting '6RD Tunnel: Enabled', where it was previously disabled. This seems to make it work but it doesn't seem to be an ideal fix.

Has anyone else had issues with this modem or are able to provide some insight or advice that could help our situation?
Thanks in advanced :)

Did you buy a Dlink DSL-2877AL?

Are you sure that it is designed for VDSL?

Yes that is the one we bought. It says on the box that it works with VDSL2+ and ADSL2+ connections

edit: I don't know if this is any different from the one you linked above but here is the one we bought:

As it turns out, this is the change that made the internet start 'working':

After some googling we were able find some solution which involved changing the ipv4 properties from automatic to:

IP address: 192.168.1.101
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1
DNS: 192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS: 218.248.240.23

and changing the DNS and alternate DNS settings on the modem to these numbers as well.

The red internet light is still on but this seems to allow the internet to work. However it doesn't seem to be working as fast as it should be or loading certain webpages/part of webpages properly.

FYI - VPI and VCI are only for ADSL, not VDSL

Using a DNS server located in India is probably not all that useful.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Won't that be the modem DNS and if unavailable then fallback to India so not quite so bad tongue-out, 8.8.8.8 likely a better choice though

Sorry I don't know much about this subject, just plugged in the numbers that the website said to. Is there a reason the modem didn't automatically get the DNS server address? I also don't understand how the internet is working when the internet light is red and the internet status in the modem says 'not connected'. The download speed seems to be okay (20.33Mbps) but the upload speed is only .14Mbps.
