Yesterday when I got back home I found my internet had a huge latency even accessing servers in NZ. I can understand the PING more than 200ms to international servers, but 13Xms to google.co.nz is not acceptable. So I rang 123 and wait... wait.... wait...... wait........... finally someone answered the call. And, after doing the tests on telecom.co.nz/speedtest again and again(the result is PING 14Xms, down 8.xMbps, up 0.3Mbps), he told me that according to telecom's rule, anything below 200ms to a domestic server is normal. This explanation gave me a shock, and then I wasted another half an hour try to convince him this is not normal but all he can answer is 'the rule'. I gave up... I spent whole night just waiting the character appear on my SSH terminal one by one(to a server in Auckland).
This morning when I wake up the problem is gone, I hope it won't show up again when I back home from work.
I am wondering, do you guys really think that anything below 200ms to a domestic server is normal? Or am I expecting too much from Telecom?
