From reading this thread, it looks like another Geekzone success story - and a good reason why big companies should let their staff participate in these places.

Since JohnR hasn't responded I have decided that I will take an irresponsible approach and put forward a theory based on pure wild speculation with no factual basis in the hope of provoking a response (shoot down).
This theory is that Vodafone are rolling out a second UMTS carrier in order to increase the bandwidth that they have available for their customers and to facilitate their new 28 Mbps network and that handovers between the two UMTS carriers weren't working correctly.
A second UMTS carrier is required to support hspa+ at 28Mbps, if you look at the HSPA standards you either go to 21Mbps on a single carrier like XT or you go for 2x14.4Mbps (28Mbps) using dual carriers. The benifit dual carriers has is that you can maintain a better signal to noise ratio on each carrier and therefore you should get better speeds especailly as you travel away from the base station.
I would be very suprised if this caused the issues people are seeing as i would assume that the changes to get 28Mbps will have limited deployment, e.g. Auvkland CBD and Airport, Wellington CBD and maybe Christchurch CBD.
Also when carriers say that they support 21Mbps or 28Mbps it is on a per nodeb basis and therefore to get the speeds you would like you would have to have no one else at all on 3G in the same cell.
overall the upgrades are great for customers so thats a great thing! just take the speed expectations with a cup of salt.
