Depending on the router you may also need to enable IPSEC passthru.

 

No idea what a Netgear does with IPSEC traffic as it's been years since I've touched one.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Willing to bet this will be what it is.

 

 

 

Often routers also call it weird names that imply it helps IPSEC....

Linux, those are the Vodafone server IP's right? Shouldn't users be forwarding those ports to the internal IP of the SureSignal, and letting the SureSignal navigate it's way to Vodafone (so to speak)

 

And on that note, has the Sure Signal been assigned a fixed internal IP address, so the port forwards will continue to work after DHCP reallocates after (say) 24 hours

 

 

I have entered an IP reservation in the router so the SS always has the same LAN IP address after router reboots etc

 

 

Good stuff.

 

The lights sound consistent with having a LAN connection but not reaching Vodafone servers. Hopefully tinkering the port forwards solves this, but there are plenty of examples of Spark customers getting a SS to work on plug and play basis

 

 

Thanks for all the replies .. Thus far it seems I have done everything I need to do in terms of the router 5 port forwards , pointing to the Sure Signal's IP address. All I can think of now is rebooting the Netgear router , doing a factory reset and reboot of the Sure Signal and leave it overnight to see if it ends up connecting by morning. Seems a rigmarole for a simple device to connect to the internet.

If it is an IPSEC passthru issue port forwards or rebooting won't fix it. Vodafone can't support every router out there, and if this is the issue it's not something they have any control over.

 

Your best bet is to Google your model and see if it has the option.

Don't follow the steps persay, just disable/enable the setting depending on what it currently is.

 

 

 

after that reboot including SS and leave it for a little while - If it hasn't managed a connection yet it may still need to do the inital bootstrap that can take some time.
