I think the answer is that Vodafone don't regularly read these forums, and that the call centre is not too good either.
I think some are still not sure of the question, so might want to clarify that before deciding this is the answer.
My Dad, a long-time HFC cable TV & internet customer has a failing, six year old, router/ATA combo. Bizzarely it is supplied by Vodafone, but supplied by the bit that used to be WorldXChange, not the bit that sells residential HFC broadband.
If he was a new customer he'd have been given a new, supported, "can call the 0800 number when it breaks and people will be helpful" router/modem/etc.
For some reason he doesn't have one. He needs one. I can't work out how to get Vodafone to give him one, without flying to Wellington and walking into a shop. The Vodafone CSR I spoke to on the phone couldn't even find his broadband account - going to a shop and signing up for a new connection or contract was their suggested solution.
