Ragnor: Punishing bad customers is good if they reward or can reduce costs for good customers as a result.. but knowing Telstra Clear good customers won't see any benefit.

That is a "legal" way to penalise late payers, I seem to remember our electricity pill had a "prompt payment discount" and it was significant as well.

I think the "prompt payment discount" works far better than adding a flat rate penalty fee. Although the end state is often the same, a "prompt payment discount" just feels nicer.

My issue is the amount of time between the time I get the bill and the time it's due. Generally I'll get a bill about a week/a week and a half after the reset date but it'll be due 5-6 later (generally before my next pay day:) ). Most places will give you 30 days to pay a bill which gives you a bit of breathing room in case anything comes up.

On a side note: Telstraclear is a telecommunications company. Why can't I get my bill emailed to me? Preferably a couple of days after my reset date. Every other company can do it. Or am I just missing something hidden deep within their poorly designed website.

A little bit OT, but the only account I don't get by email now is my Sky account, and that is because their billing system doesn't seem to be able to do it by email.

Even bank statements I get electronically, with the exception of the credit card statements, which neither National Bank nor BNZ seem to be able to do electronically (Other than internet banking of course).

I get my Corporate AMEX statement notification by email and log into the website to view the PDF. Wish I could do that with my personal cards.

You can now get bills via email. It is one of the new features since the updated customerzone went live.

Thanks Marb, I also didn't know you could get it by email now. Their new portal thingy just seemed like extra clicks between my bookmark & my usage meter. I will switch to email.

This is nuts though. Our last bill arrived a whole 10 days after the statement date, with 14 days to pay, i.e. 4 left! Our other mail arrives 1-3 days as Chch is a major city so you can't blame the postie! We have always paid on time, but if it takes them 10 days to get us the bill, and we have 14 to pay, it actually becomes insulting to have a stick waved like this. Come on, sort your s... out Telstra! If it takes you so long to get the statement to your customers no bloody wonder they aren't paying on time lol. Do we get to complain when our packets arrive late?!Surprised

KiwiNZ: For me this just adds to TCL's terrible customer service record. They all graduated from the Basil Fawlty School of Customer Service.

As opposed to the slackers school of not taking responsibility for paying your accounts on time?

I think actually receiving a call (even though it's automated) reminding you to pay your account is generous enough, I have had a couple of these - Paid my account straight away and never received a late payment fee.

Why do people whine about a fee that they hold the power to avoid?

Behodar: I just looked at last month's TelstraClear bill and I paid it the day before it was due. That most likely means that I received it that day too.

This month's bill arrived on time. I hope this continues to be the case.

i have to say that quite often I will get the Telstraclear bill quite a while after my "month" clicks over.

As mentioned, it would be far more convenient with automated email billing, perhaps with a text even thrown in for reminder as per vodafone.

Its never late, as i just go pay it the day i receive the bill, but you guys are right sometimes it does rankle with the bill arriving like 3-4 days before payment is due.

For the less well-heeled you can definately see this being an issue!

Just to rub salt into wounds.... I pay all my bills by direct debit... I keep account of incomings vs outgoings.
It's called budgeting :) & I've never received a late fee from any utility company.

With TCL you can also view your bill online & usage meter comes with billing cycle date on it as well.
