Not quite along the line of helping out with the Time Capsule connection issue... and kinda OT... BUT...

I have been thinking to replace my router+AP combo set up with my TCL cable, and pretty much decided on either Cisco/Linksys E4200 or Apple Airport Extreme/Time Capsule - I want a simultaneous dual-band N router.

What's your thought on Time Capsule? I read the Apple Airport Extreme (5th) has pretty good performance.

Hmm...I've tried selecting bridge but I got a "!" in my wi-fi in OSX, which means no internet connection.

So you are using time capsule and telstraclear cable?

You are going to need to use NAT/Router mode rather than bridge. Can you set the mode of the WAN port on the TC, I presume they are GigE so might need to lock down to 10/100, they may not be playing ball with the SurfBoard which I have found to sometimes act rather odd when negotiating a physical ethernet connection, I suspect it has a limited auto MDI/MDIX negotiating skills.

Cheers. At the moment it is set to automatic. But you can choose a range of modes, from 10/100 all the way up to the fastest. I'll try 10/100 when I get home!

PS: by surfboard do you mean the telstraclear cable modem?

freitasm: What do you get if you ping 202.175.128.164?

Ok I just tried it, I don't get anything.

I also tried changing the mode to 10/100, as well as the other options but no luck there. I can actually change it to 1000/full duplex and then I get an orange light on the time capsule :D I assume this means the TCL cable model is going "wtf!"

I'm now out of ideas and am going to ring apple :)

looks like you have your WAN ip on the LOCAL side,,,,,
Under Internat Tab Internet Connection THIS IS WHERE YOU PUT YOUR WAN INFO, ie 121.?.?.? etc

The TCP/IP is the LAN side ie YOUR NETWORK

Why does this screen below say 'Ethernet Unplugged'? Where is your cable modem connected to on the time capsule?

As mentioned, I would bet there is an issue with the Ethernet connection to the modem, might be physically connected but the TC and Surfboard are not negotiating a working signalling connection so the TC reports no connection, seen it many times with these modems.

Of course there could also be a wiring issue, try a different cable, ensure you dont have a crossover cable.

At the time I took the screenshots I had unplugged the ethernet cable from the WAN port of the Time Capsule and had plugged it back into my old router, so I had internet.

When I plug the ethernet cable into the WAN port of the Time Capsule, the light does go green, and the status message above changes to 'Normal'.

It is definitely plugged into the 'sun' WAN port of the Time Capsule.

Hmm - but I use the same cable for my old router and it works fine in this case?

I actually called Apple Care but they can't help me until an admin problem is sorted out. Turns out the warranty for the TIme Capsule I bought expired in July 2010!?! So I had to send them proof of purchase before they would help me. Very friendly though :P
