Rickles: cg,
P.S.

I meant to add that a lot of ISPs do not have smtp/pop3 features, e.g. free wifi from, say McDonalds or a public library, or even Vodafone mobile broadband through one of their third-party suppliers like Crazy John in Australia. With those it's either web-mail or the GMail workaround.

mattwnz: Our library allows pop and smtp. Wifi that blocks this is pretty useless, as many people only use wifi hotspots for checking their email. If they have 5 email accounts they are hardly going to check eaich of those manually using webmail.

Are the original issues with email starting to go away?
I really used to care about 2mbit of email spam hitting something, but with 100mbit links I care less and less.
The cost of data is getting cheaper than the cost of management.
I run anti spam filters on in and out going, and we have grey lists as well.? Doesn't stop everything, but slows it down.
I saw someone mentioned SPF records.? I had checking in for that, but dropped it.? People don't update their SPF records when they move providers, so the whole thing just breaks.? Wasted my time that I didn't get paid for and cost me an upset customer.?
Some customers do get hit with spam all the time.? We just push it off though gmail or yahoo who seem to clean most of it up for them.
