Got a call this afternoon and have been booked in for the 12 - 4pm window tomorrow to get my parents connection upgraded to the 200/20 plan. From speaking to the Downer lady, they are being absolutely smashed with this at the moment so I won't be surprised if VF have to hand out more $100 to a lot more people. The credit for my olds has already been applied.

I'm one of the Downer techs and our work volumes have now gone through the roof. I've personally completed 3 docsis 3.1 upgrades today and tonight head back out for another shift to help complete some more of the node upgrades. But yeah, very busy at the moment. It's good though, at least we can now see this happening.

I feel for you guys - at the public facing sharp end of a business engagement process between VFNZ & Downer that seems to have a few gaps in it! Good luck!

Hear hear! Keep it up Downer!

I booked my install at a VF store and I received a text saying please call to confirm your booking. I was a bit miffed they had the nerve to text "call our wait queue" but it turns out I had missed a couple of voice mails from them that I hadn't seen. They said the helpdesk I needed was closed so I asked if they could call tomorrow rather than me having to call in again, and they did! Twice in fact (voice mail again). Now that's what I call great service - install is booked for tomorrow.

I have an Asus RT-N66R.  Is it possible to use this instead of the supplied HG659?

Guess you are not complaining about been connected to a congested HFC Node?

Linux

Nope, definitely not complaining for once! :D

Vodafone's really stepped up their game since the D-CMTS upgrade. Quite impressed with how well gigabit seems to be performing. Excited to get back from work and see how it performs in the evenings. I've got high expectations. :)

Can it vlan tag on the wan port? I (ignorantly?) understand that that's the sole requirement to allow a third party option to work, in the same manner as if the connection was from a fibre ONT.

You can use whatever you like after the install, again. I'll be keeping the HG659 myself. It's a lot simpler than a dedicated pfSense box + a switch + a wireless access point. The WiFi is about 5x faster than the Ubiquiti 802.11n AP too. But I should move it to a more central location, since it gets moderately flaky in one corner of my room.

Overall, incredibly impressed with the setup and service for the brief time that I've used it.

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed too. I've had mine running since Friday. I did notice one short 2 minute outage (where some of the lights were out on the modem too), but other than that it's been great.

As Disrespective said above above not any router will work you need to have your WAN port tagged with VLAN 10.

I found this thread and applied it and now it's all working http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=39&topicid=180671

Thanks all for your help.

Skillie:

Speedtest record over WiFi for me:

-> TC4400 modem -> Netgear R7000 router -> Netgear R7000 WiFi 5GHz bridge -> PC on 1GbE

Was there any additional tweaking you had to do to get the R7000 to work with the modem? I haven't requested keeping a static IP so I assume if I want to keep using my R7000 I change the setting for 'Internet IP Address' from the existing static address to 'Get Dynamically from ISP'

Any other changes? Did you have to configure VLAN Tagging?

Hey Guys, long time no talk

I see Vodafone has finally got DOCSIS 3.1 700-900/95 mbps and 200/20 mbps plans for sale

My friend who is in the same work as me and has been stuck with 100/10 from Vodafone for years

asked a good question and though you all might be able to answer if she upgraded to the new FibreX 200/20

what would real world results be like compared to the 100/10 I understand you can hit 200/20 within NZ

but for offshore for the video consultations she will get around 17-19 mbps depending on the US server and 7-9 mbps Upstream

on the 100/10 Cable conection so my question is would she see much more (real world) improvement on the new fibrex 200/20 plan

Thank You

hope you all enjoying the sun today =) and the new installations are getting put in fast =)

take care

Jamie

We were installed today. I took off the Huawei router and connected my own Netgear Nighthawk.  Its working sort of, the speeds via Ethernet are somewhat slow. I am on the Gigabit plan but only managing 150mb/s download and 12mb/s upload.
