I'd love to know when it became possible to get latency much better than that to the USA. You can't change the speed of light.
I've got Vodafone broadband - can I switch off interleaving for my broadband account?
We want to make sure our broadband service is as reliable as possible for all our customers, so we don't turn interleaving off for individual customers.
If you're a gamer, we recommend you play your online games on a New Zealand or Oceanic server.
allstarnz: 5 years ago, you could get 3.5mb/s down, 512 up for about $90/month, you can't get anything near that now.
Why has broadband got a little faster, way more expensive, and way less 'bang for your buck'?
Maybe because bandwidth is costly & there are more people on Broadband then every before & the networks are not copping with all the new users, just look at the number of exchanges that are full or overloaded.

As far as I am aware NZ has never had 512 kb/s upload speed for a home ADSL connections, we have only had 128kb/s

Max/Max connections back in the 3.5mbps era was 3.5mbps/512kbps.
At least with Xtra / Telcome it was 3.5mbps/128kbps.
I know we had 192 kbps upload back in the jetstream days....
