I got my vfx connected today, now heres my question.

The number that came with vfx looks like an auckland number, where as I am in Dunedin.
If people from dunedin ring my vfx number will they be charged like a national toll call or will it be charged as local? As i figgured since calling out from the phone to local numbers is free so would the other way around?

How does it work?

If you signed up with a Dunedin billing address, you should have a local Dunedin number which means that calls to and from other Dunedin numbers are free.

Have a look in the number register here:

http://www.nz.m-co.com/upload/sectionimages/13571_Number_Register_2007_05_02.xls

and you will be able to see which local calling area your number is in.  In Dunedin you should have a number in the 03-747-xxxx range.

In that case I am guessing that WxC have recently started using the 742 range of numbers which was previously reserved for them.

Keep in mind that the list I posted the link to was dated May 2, so there will have been some changes since that time.  In my experience, the file changes at least once every month.

Welcome on board Michael

This is the number range that we have assigned from the NAD for allocation in the Dunedin area, see below thread, probably just a bit off putting as you are generally used to seeing the Telecom number ranges in Dunedin , but since we now offer own own number ranges they just happen to be guite a bit different to the Telecom ones, no problem all calls to and from your local area will be free using those numbers.
