Hi,

Phones are not working on my SPA2102.

Browser access to the SPA2102 shows Line 1 reistration failed.

Any idea what that means?

Have rebooted and power cycled the 2102.

Internet is operating okay.

Phone access to the 2102 is okay using the ****, but no dial tone.

Cheers

Thanks Maverick

Have all my network stuff on a UPS and the internet all appeared to be working ok.

Power cycled my ADSL router (Dynalink RTA1320) and network switch.

Then power cycled my SPA2102.

Phones working again.

Don't understand the failure however.

Using static IPs on the LAN.

Is there something I can try or tweek to stop this failure?

As usual my good lady was lost without the phone :-) and I was at work when it happened.

Cheers

Gordy

This happened to me a while back when I was using a separate router and ATA.  Internet was working fine, phone was not.  Rebooted router and all OK.  It only happened once so far as I recall.

However, I now have a WRTP54G with combined Router and ATA in the one box.  It hasn't happened again since I got it.

In your case a WAG54GP2 might be worth a look.

We are seeing this with a few of the cheaper routers, when the DSL links drop and the connection re-establishes on a different IP address then the Router seems to block the SIP natting, thats my first guess, I will take a look the 1320 and see what I find, are you running the latest firmware ?

Hi:

I've had exactly the same problem - also using an SPA2102 with a Linksys WAG200G ADSL modem / router. Problem started on Sunday when I restarted my ADSL modem/router. I've got registration failed periodically since. Restarted my router and now works OK again. But still dunno why it failed tho! This doesn't look too at all Frown

Nothing has changed on the Dynalink RTA1320's since we established this issue @ WxC last year. Lose DSL, change of IP address, & VFX will not re-register until a router reboot. A static IP on your account will fix this, but there is now the $10/mth cost for this.

You could also try the RTA1320 in half-bridge mode into the SPA2102, then hang the rest of your network of the LAN side of the SPA2102.

I second the suggestion to run the RTA1320 in half bridge.  The only down side is that the modem's clock can not be set (or synced) any more, so the logs show the time relative to when the modem was booted.  I've got a WRTP54G and RTA1320.

Have the latest firmware in my RTA1320 ... 3.30j

Do have a dynamic IP with Xnet but have the RTA1320 set to pole DynDNS on IP change.
Not that Xnet is concerned about my DNS.

On static IPs that was mentioned...

I can't see that my RTA1320 would have initiated an IP change since it was on a UPS.

If the IP changed from the Xnet end then the the Xnet end should be able to pick up the change I would have thought.

I will see how the setup I have here behaves itself for a while
The RTA1320 and the SPA2102 are about a month old, so I am reluctant to change to single router and ATA combo.

Cheers

Although the RTA1320 is a "cheapy" I chose it because it has the Broadcom chipset which seemed to be used in quite a few routers... But don't ask me for a list of those routers :-)

Gordy, you missed the point a little bit here; it would seem you may have lost DSL sync (not a power cut), thus you router re-syncs, and in the process recieves a new IP from Xnet. Due to a bug (or just they way it is), the Dynalink does not pass on all the new IP information, so you VFX device stops communicating.

1. if you are losing DSL sync often, then there is an issue with your connection that needs to be addressed.

2.If this is just happening once or twice a month, then that is not uncommon, so your solution is: just reset router when it happens or use half bridge mode or get static IP.

I will have a look at the RTA1320 tonight and see if there is a synch parameter I can keep an eye on or even log it.
Thanks for the explanation.

also

Maverick says that
... DSL links drop and the connection re-establishes on a different IP address then the Router seems to block the SIP natting.

What if the router is set up with a NAT to the ATA IP... Would that overcome the Router blocking?

Cheers

Hi Gordy,

Can you restart your SPA2102 please give it a few minutes then run through this test please ,

1. Disconect the DSL (don't poer off the Router)
2. Wait until the phone line drops off
3. Reconnect the DSL
4. The 2102 should now come back online with 3 minutes of the DSL combing back online

on the 2102 we are making a change that will hopefully get around these routers blocking these ports, it will only address the issue with the 2102 , WRP400 at this stage not the PAP2T

Hi Maverick,

Looks like there was no Line 1 recovery after loosing the DSL... :-(

Just in case I did something incorrectly...

Results:

SPA2102 powered off for 15 sec then back on

Waited 40 minutes... phone was in use for some of the time.

DSL line disconnected.
DSL dropped and PPP dropped.
SPA 2102 Line 1 (LED off) dropped after 3 minutes.

Reconnected DSL.

DSL and PPP back up after 55 seconds.

Waited 5 minutes for Line 1 to come back... Nothing.

Power cycled the RTA1320.

DSL and PPP up after 1 minute.

2102 Line 1 up after a further minute.

Not what you were expecting?

Thanks

Cheers
