For all the months of poor connectivity and overcharging that convinced me to leave Vodafone, I would like to report a positive experience(ish) leaving them.

I cancelled our internet 5th October and got an unexpected bill this morning. I flicked an email out around 7:30am asking that it be rectified, but expected to have to follow up with a phone call later today or during the week.

To my great surprise I got a phone call about an hour later, confirming the bill was in error and also letting me know I was overcharged on the final one a month ago (which I hadn't noticed).

The guy on the phone took down a bank account number to return the funds and followed up with an email confirming what he'd done.

An absolute about face on the uncaring attitude I'd battled for months on end when I was bound by a 12 month contract, I was even gobsmacked when I cancelled and the retention team being unable match bigpipes offer harrumphed and hung up on me.

If the experience I had today is indicative of Vodafone having fixed what was a very toxic way of dealing with customers, I might one day consider going back to them if I end up in an area without fibre, whereas before I was willing to accept ADSL as a trade off to never have to deal with them again.

When I left I didnt have any issues, they put me to their retention team who tried to come up with a deal to keep me (What I wanted was $160 a month from them vs $100 from Voyager....V/fone got it down to $120) and when I declined, that was it. No more contact, noone bashing the door for money or anything.

Overall my whole time with V/fone was pretty good really.

The fact any company needs a "Retention Team" tells me something about the company. If their product and customer service were up to scratch they wouldn't need such a team.
