Hi All,

I have been trying unsuccessfully to find out what the DHCP range is set to in the Ultra Hub router.

I am aware that the Router Gateway is 192.168.1.1 and am wanting to assign a static IP to a device that is outside of the DHCP assignment range.

Cheers

Log into UltraHub and look at setting.

Spark Max Fibre using Mikrotik CCR1009-8G-1S-1S+, CRS125-24G-1S, Unifi UAP, U6-Pro, UAP-AC-M-Pro, Apple TV 4K (2022), Apple TV 4K (2017), iPad Air 1st gen, iPad Air 4th gen, iPhone 13, SkyNZ3151 (the white box). If it doesn't move then it's data cabled.

Hi Spyware,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am preconfiguring another router that will be sitting behind the Vodafone one. I don't have access to the actual router to be able to check these settings myself and have insufficient knowledge of the gui to be able to get them to navigate to that page 😉

If they know the username and password for the router I can screenshot the bits for you.

Hi kiwifidget,

Thanks for the offer, but I am unsure what user ID and password you are referring to. The connection is a Vodafone Fibre which is using IP based authentication with a newly supplied Ultra Hub router.

Cheers

The admin credentials to log into the UltraHub, printed on a label on the device.

The DHCP range is from 192.168.1.2 to 254

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Sounds like your setup is the same as my setup - I have my ultrahub connected to the ONT and my 2nd router (google wifi in my case) connected to the ultrahub. Any device connected to your 2nd router will be given an ip address from the DHCP range of your 2nd router.

Google the standard settings for the 2nd router.

@rogercruse , could that be done with the superwifi units?

I have to keep the Ultrahub for the homephone, so set up my Decos in access point mode, so I cant use some of the nice features.

But could I set them up like you have for your google wifis?

Anyways, login and change to Advanced Mode.

Select Settings from this red area, and then LAN from the resulting dropdown on the left.

DHCP settings will be below the Network Settings, you may need to scroll down.

If you make a change, dont forget to click APPLY at the bottom.

Thanks for that info Newtown as that was exactly what I was after.

I have already set the address in the config I sent to 192.168.1.10 so I'll need to see if they can navigate to that page and change the bottom start address.

Cheers

Thanks Spyware, kiwifidget and rogercruze for your helpful suggestions and pointers.

Totally missed the boat on what kiwifidget was suggesting with the admin ID and password reference.

I haven't taken up the superwifi offering, so I don't know what you can or can't do with it. Like you, I'm keen to know.

My setup is fairly simple:

  1. UltraHub connected to the ONT using the supplied ethernet cable.
  2. UltraHub has wifi disabled. No changes to other settings.
  3. 1st Google Wifi unit connected by ethernet cable to the UltraHub.
  4. 1st Google Wifi unit connected by ethernet cable to switch.

I've positioned the other Google wifi units around the house and these are connected by ethernet cable. Cables installed as part of new house design & build.

I've used the Google Wifi app to manage and control access:

  1. Setup two networks - guest and main.
  2. The guest network for any visits, etc with a simple password pinned to the fridge door.
  3. The main network restricted accessed controlled by me. Each allocated device has a reserved IP address (this speeds up connection).

For completeness, I have a number of devices (NAS, Printers, laptops, desktops, mobiles, tablets, home automation, etc) and I've had to setup Port Forwarding on the UltraHub & Google Wifi devices for them to work.

@rogercruse  thank you for explaining your setup.

I have disabled all wifi on my ultrahub and use the superwifi units to do only that.

I think that is the way for these devices: either to replace ultrahub, or be wifi access points with the ultrahub.
