Hi all,

Currently looking at going for the iPhone $80 plan.

It appears to be the best bang-for-buck option. Certainly over the iPhone $60 plan, when taking into account the iPhone subsidy.

If I terminated in 7 months, I think it works out to about $300 or so over the cost of the iPhone by itself. So, $300 for the cost of 600 texts (anywhere in NZ), 120 mins voice (anywhere in NZ), and 250MB broadband over a 7 month period seemed ok ($42 per month) - a shame the 3GB data bonus offer wasn't permanent.

Just wondering if anyone thinks there is a better option than the iPhone $80 and why?

Personally i was looking at doing something similar, until i was tweeting @VodafoneNZ asking about the same. Apparently if you drop (terminate) the iPhone contract early - you have to make the difference between the subsidy and the full price of the phone.. unless i was told wrongly? JohnR may be able to tell you what the story is..

Otherwise people would just do that, get it on plan and terminate contract after 6-7 months usage and get a heavily discounted iPhone.. it doesnt work that way.

The iPhone wouldn't be discounted in the sense that I'd be getting it for less than the phone-only price.

Although, I guess with an iPhone $40 plan for 7 months + termination fee, it actually works out to $80 more than the phone itself (no plan). So, I guess if you wanted a relatively cheap Vodafone plan for 7 months (i.e. for a spare Vodafone handset), with the incentive being a subsidised iPhone then it works out that way. That kind of situation might work well for a bestmate scenario if you sourced a cheap Vodafone handset.

For the iPhone $80 plan, the subsidy is $780. Taking into account the cost of 7 months + termination cost , it worked out to about $300 above the cost of the phone by itself (no plan). One could do the same with the iPhone $40 plan, and the saving (over the iPhone $80) is $220. However, for the extra $220 - stretched over a 7 month period ($31 per month extra, $42 p/m total), I end up with a much better plan that I doubt I'd ever go over.

Of course I've been warned the iPhone is a data gateway magnet, so that 250MB (after this month) might not got that far :)
