this has been happening for a month or two now ... i figured it would just go away like it used to but it seems to be happening more and more often now (ever since my ping dropped by about 15ms on average).

anyway ... what happens is pings will randomly all be 550 and above and it wont drop below that for a few hours... speed goes down a bit but that i don't mind as much as the massive pings.

i will post another speedtest when the speeds become normal to show the difference in it

my connection stats are still fine (this is what they always are give or take a bit but my connection is extremely stable and stays connected with the same connection/ip for a month or two normally)

i have checked that it is no other computer (or my own) creating these drops in speed and rises in pings so im pretty sure it is the connection itself

rebooting the modem doesn't change speeds or anything

we have had issues with our connection before with what we were told was a capacitor needing to be replaced but we were stuck 64kbs/64kbs and no connection for weeks while it reconnected to even gain that speed (normally needing a hard reset on our line each time)

when the ping went down packet loss started on our connection as well which is normally ok ... can just mean refreshing a page every so often (viop tests range from 0 - 25% packet loss)

im on the WAK (Waitakere) exchange which i know is a horribly stressed exchange so i do have my suspicions its at the exchange itself

one site which never seems to be affected is google
