So here's something different: my Office2016 (O365B) installation has stopped working for saving files.

Word/Excel/Powerpoint - if I try to save a file, the process will stall and the app will crash. It's at the point now where I can't even trigger the open process to find a file.

I've checked the files in question - all are good - and I opened/saved to the same location using different machines also running win10/o2016. This particular machine - my main one - isn't working.

I've uninstalled/reinstalled office, but I have a horror suspicion some key system file in win10 has corrupted somewhere.

Thoughts anyone?

So after a weekend of reverting back to a fresh WIndows build and reinstalling, the error recurred last night. In a fit of inspiration I exited Malwarebytes from running memory, and things are running again fine. Swiftly I might add.

What's got me thinking is the new anti-exploit features. Although it shouldn't interfere with a trusted app like Office... I wonder...

That's interesting.  I started getting Excel crashing on save today (Creator, Office 365 home), and reinstalled (and lost all my icons), and updated Office, and it's still happening.  Can't do any work at all.  Now I am looking askance at Malwarebytes, and will report back.

And yes, turn Malware bytes off, and Excel works fine.  Time to tell MWB, I think.  Thanks, @antoniosk!

They have introduced an anti-exploit feature, which you can edit in the settings per application, so you dont have to remove the app completely.

But really poor that something so mainstream like office hasnt been checked... i reported it a few days ago, no feedback or acknowledgement

This fixed my Excel, clearly the problem they know about is ppt, which works fine for me.

I'm so busy hating on W10 that almost nothing could make me hate it more. Using my Mac with OSX is like a breath of clean air in comparison. Just today, Windows decided I could not copy photos to my Photos file because I did not have permission to write to it.....I'm the Admin! Macs just don't do that sort of random sh1t. I find with Windows that if it isnt one thing, its another almost weekly. Garr. The hardware is getting good but they need to contract out to Apple for the software next time😀

No way do I want to be forced to use Apple software or, even, Google software. It's not all rosy in those camps. Just using photo software as an example, I've been forced to change too many times by both vendors with inadequate "upgrade" paths. On the other hand, I've not been forced to change from iTunes, which I'd dearly love to leave behind because it has failed to deliver enough improvements and remains a bloated hog on Windows.

P.S. I've had no problems with Windows 10 Creator upgrade so far.

I never use Apples built in photo stuff. Leave that to Adobe.

However, OSX rarely, if ever, decides I can't put new images in any file I might want to use! Windows just has too many random glitches.

It also looks great until you go from the desktop to something like File Explorer. For some reason the FE window, the font, the icons and pretty much all of it look totally unmodernised and like Windows in 1997...

MWB finally acknowledged my issue last night, and posted the same fix as well as usual boilerplate on 'we're working on it'. Kinda unforgivable really, to break something like Office, a really mainstream app even in 2017.

I want to know why settings were changed, such as what happens when I close the lid to my laptop, power options, as well as the default program to open .mp3's and .mp4's. Is there a list somewhere of everything it changes so I can check that they are still set to my liking? It kind of pisses you off after a while. LEAVE MY SETTINGS ALONE!!

its under Window settings and then click on the apps icon, then default apps then scroll down and you should see 3 highlighted choose default apps . choose which one matters to you and change them to what you want.

I'm glad this works for you, it doesn't work for a lot of us.

On my PC's, Edge is still stealing the pdf association from it's rightful owner (Bluebeam Revu or Adobe Acrobat).
I've given up trying to stop notepad grabbing the txt association from Notepad++ or Sublime Text.

Must have changed these settings dozens of times in Windows 10 using the recommended method with no permanent result.

Your settings and file associations should not be getting changed. This is a bug. Please submit feedback using the Feedback Hub tool so that logs can be collected from.your PC and Microsoft knows about it to fix it.

Oh, they do. Mac OS is no better in terms of being crap at a times. I've seen it crashing, burning, losing files many times.

Agreed, I have both and in my experience both platforms have similar performance issues wise.

And yet...every time I turn on this Surface Pro, I have a new issue.

Today, my USB card reader won't stay connected. There seems to be a firmware update for it. Which Windows won't run, returning only "Device Mismatch"

Whilst it might be exaggerating to say Mac OSX never has problems, in my experience it has far fewer. It's also much nicer to use from a GUI perspective.

My only PC to do the upgrade so far is the crappy little ITX based thing I have in the old photo kiosk as a touchscreen jukebox.

Went into the garage and the screen was on with the UEFI logo and the spinning dots. Sat like that for ages.

Powered it off and on, restarted, came up and asked me the privacy questions again and no issues at all, except windows defender showed a warning about device manager and the only thing wrong in there is some encryption/decryption device that I have never had a driver for so I just disabled it again. All good, the few apps I have on it are still there and working.

My laptop (Probook 430) had finally stablilised itself after previous Win 10 updates had turned it into something I was about to throw out the door one day.. Now it's turned to crap again.

I've spent 2 hours this morning on my desktop trying to get my monitor working again via HDMI (will only work via VGA), get audio going (which was also over HDMI), and get my USB headset working. All broke with the update. I've now given up on the monitor so will have to go and buy out and buy speakers to get audio working on this machine.

The machine boots up in HDMI and displays the loading screen. It then loses video when it gets to the login screen. No amount of safe boots, driver uninstalls and reinstalls or messing with settings seems to be able to fix this issue.
