Now I have been able to successfully multiboot to XP/Vista/Fedora before but after my install today I am only able to boot to Vista.

My old XP boot.ini looked like this:
[boot loader]
timeout=8
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Old)" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(7)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(4)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Test)" /fastdetect

Last one installed before Vista was 3rd in the list.

Vista was installed on partition 1, overwriting "Microsoft Windows XP Professional (Old)". Last time I installed Vista RC2 wason partition 7, and it copied the entries from boot.ini into the Vista boot loader and booted fine.

I tried using EasyBCD 1.5 and and Vista Boot Pro to add the XP entries back, but get the following error:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click 'Next'
3. Click 'Repair your computer'

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer administrator for assistance.

File: \ntldr

Status: 0xc000000f

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt

Does anyone have any ideas on this?

I don't know much about this but Vista uses a different booting system then xp. It doesn't have a boot ini it uses something called bcd (boot configuration data)   http://www.microsoft.com/technet/windowsvista/library/85cd5efe-c349-427c-b035-c2719d4af778.mspx

I use bootit ng search it under google its the only boot manager that allows you to add vista easily so it might pick up xp automatically and you can add vista
