My touchpad perform menu popup actions when I swipe left or right, how do I stop this infuriating behaviour? Is it a gift from MS in Win8 itself or Sony hate endeavour? There control panel provides not hints, and neither does the uncontrol panel.

If I could disable this the hate of using this thing might ease a smidge.

Go to the settings in modern UI (charms bar) then change pc settings, then pc and devices then mouse and touchpad then untoggle "enable swiping in from left or right edges"

Is this the right place?

normally this would be in the Mouse Control panel, with a Synaptics add in, the last tab in the mouse CPL

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

try under "Corners and edges" then app switching

but I'm surprised you don't see this in the Mouse control panel

This does not appear in my control panel, is it an additional application I need to install?

Note: Corners turned off did not change the edge behaviour
