Just today, without warning, I cannot save a homepage.
I'm running Windows 8.1, IE 11.
I go to Internet Options, change the homepage, Apply or Save.
Exit out of options, immediately go back - it hasn't saved, comes up "about:blank" every time.
Doing my head in.
Suggestions appreciated!
Cheers

Would you be running some AV or anti-spyware that would prevent changing the homepage?

Try running it in admin mode (I think hold ctrl-shift and click on explorer). Also, are we talking about desktop explorer or modern UI explorer?

No, I run Bit Defender - and no updates that I'm aware of.

As easy as that!

Thanks man - did the ctrl-shift, saved the homepage I wanted (Google, funny that).
X'd out restarted IE 'normally' and it came up with Google.

Thanks heaps, I can sleep easy now.

Cheers,

Si

Now the question you may ask is why didn't you have permissions to your IE settings location :)

Rather than saving google as your home page, it can be an idea to just use the google plugin. When you search, type in the address bar: ? search term (a space after the question mark). It will use the search plugin you have set to be default. For using alternate search methods, the little down arrow on the right of the address bar allows for selecting alternate providers.

Finally, modern UI browser and desktop are the same thing - just the default settings are different around how security is applied.

Not sure what you mean by little down arrow - there are a few drop down arrows to the right - do you meant the one kinda in the address bar?  Cos it only offers Googled theme stuff.
No dramas though, I'm one of the plebs who only uses google!
Cheers,

If you enter anything that is not a website address in Address Bar you will get a search result. By default it's Bing, but you can change the default by adding Google:

Once you add Google (or any other) you can switch the default (or remove the ones you don't need) by going to Manage Add-ons:

When I installed the Google toolbar, it must have made it my default - if I enter a search topic in the address bar it comes back with Google results.
Thanks heaps!
