I have just received my Stream8 this morning so in the process of setting it up to be family friendly

What i want to do is create a tile shortcut that will open up say Lightbox website in full screen mode through Desktop IE browser, so that it effectively works like a metro app

My Googling skills are failing me this morning so would appreciate any assistance!!

-k switch makes IE go full screen from a shortcut.

You can create a shortcut similar to this and use it in your startup if you really want a kiosk mode.

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" -k "http://www.lightbox.co.nz"

only downfall of that is there are no menus and you have to alt + f4 to close it, IMHO its probably just easier to hit f11 when you open the page

Or .. F11 to come out of Fullscreen mode

Thanks guys... awesome works a treat bar one minor issue.... can't bring up on screen keyboard to minimize again

Not a major as i can probably create a shortcut to back to normal IE view rather than rebooting every time

The main purpose of doing this is to let my two year old be able to use LightBox unassisted, she can easily navigate here way through the iPad app but her ability to meddle in a desktop environment is second to none!!

I set up another shortcut that takes me to a normal browser window, from there you can see and close the full screen tab no problem

Its a bit round about but go from full screen desktop window --> metro start screen --> normal desktop browser window

For my purpose it will enable me to have simple one button "Pretty" shortcuts from metro start to each website which is well within the capabilities of the family to navigate

What about 'immersive view', or whatever it's called? I set this up for TVNZ ondemand on my Stream 8, it actually does run as a Metro app? I've pinned the shortcut to Start.

Edit: Just checked, go to the File menu in IE, choose Open in Immersive Browser.

Here it is on my File menu:

This is from my desktop PC, but it's the same on the Stream 8.

Yes, that's the point -- it opens to full screen, from a Start menu button, and acts like a Metro app because it is... so you can exit with a swipe, and all the controls are touch, it even has the auto-popup keypad which you don't get on the desktop.

So it does all he wanted, just not on the desktop, which could only help based on what he's said about the family.
