As per the title, I'm looking for a tool to bring some order to the chaos around asset management at work. Currently we have stacks of information in numerous locations, so whenever a particular question comes up there is a process of running round and gathering information into a spreadsheet, and tedious process of massaging it to get the answer, only to repeat when another different question comes up.

We are looking for something that can inventory systems, tell us about the hardware, OS, patch level, software installed, when that software was last used, understand when the software is up for renewal, etc, and ideally capable of providing this for Windows, Linux and Mac OS.

Any of you had success in this area? Any awesome packages out there? Not looking to roll our own solution, we would want something off the shelf.
