I have a private (home) network of 5 W10 PCs. Some are V1803, some are 32 or 64 bit, all are W10 Pro, one is V1809.

I recently reinstalled W10 on this latter PC (lets call it PCNew). When I go into File Explorer\Network only one of my PCs shows the icon for PCNew. However, in the PCs that don't show the icon for PCNew, I can reach shared folders on PCNew by typing the path in the address bar of Windows explorer.

These PCs are connected to a TP-Link Archer C2 Router and a TP-Link switch. It does not matter which port on the router or switch that I connect PCNew on, the result is always the same.

All PCs are set as on private network, with network discovery turned on, with password protected sharing turned on. All PCs are set with static IP addresses. I have tried resetting the network on the PC's that cannot see PCNew, but does not make any difference. In Services App I have the following services set to automatic (delayed) start.

  • Computer Browser (Browser)
  • Function Discovery Provider Host (FDPHost)
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication (FDResPub)
  • Network Connections (NetMan)
  • UPnP Device Host (UPnPHost)
  • Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRPSvc)
  • Peer Networking Grouping (P2PSvc)
  • Peer Networking Identity Manager (P2PIMSvc).

I have Bitdefender Total Security 2019 as the active Firewall, and have enabled exclusions for all static IPs on my network and have turned off stealth mode. None of this has helped.  Turning router and switch off then on makes no difference.

These PCs are communicating successfully on the same workgroup, but strangely only one of them shows PCNew in File Explorer\Network.

Hope someone out there can help me

I think you might be affected by SMB V1 being uninstalled in the latest updates.

  • Navigate to Control Panel -> Programs -> Turn Windows features on or off
  • Tick SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support.
  • Click OK

Referred to at the below link.

Initially I did not have SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support enabled on some PCs, but I have it enabled on all of them now, and the problem remains unresolved.

Thanks for your response.
