Hi ,

So I've changed a configuration , and now cannot figure out how to diable it .

when I power up my laptop it brings up a black screen with small white text showing a scanning what appears to be of the drive .....

xxx kbs etc

then after a few seconds it shows I think f10 and f12 ? one is boot mode and the other something else ..I forget sorry

anyway the only way to now stop this scanning and resume standard widonws xp startup when this scan starts is to hit escape .. I'm certain it's a bios config / advanced boot perhaps .. but dont want to screw it up more

incase peeps think it's anti virus i use avaast

help ..........

Cheers

These sort of problems are really hard to diagnose online, especially with such little information. Where you playing around in the BIOS before this happened? Have you recently installed any new software applications?

You haven't left a CD/DVD in your drive have you that's booting up?

Taking a photo of the screen (a real man's screenshot!) and posting it might help, then someone might recognise the program that's running and be able to offer some better advice. Don't bother if you can't take a clear photo though. Crappy phone cam's aren't much help!

Sorry this post doesn't help much, but there's really not enough info to begin to guess. Maybe someone else will recognise your symptoms though.

Sounds like you've changed the device boot order, and it's trying to netboot from a PXE server.

Look for "boot order" in the bios settings, and move the HDD up the list. You want something like:

Removable devices/Floppy
CD
HDD
Network

Sounds like youve go into the BIOS and disabled QuickBoot or similar.

Go back into the BIOS/Setup (which is one of the F button options youre seeing) and in there somewhere will be an option labelled "Quickboot" or along those lines - turn it back on and you'll find the RAM test etc youre seeing on power up should disappear.

Read each option carefully before selecting it.
