Just a hypothetical question at the moment, but how does WHS cope with a failure of the system disk ? And the system disk would also contain some folder duplication ....
I found this on homeserverland.com, and 'tis a bit disconcerting .. any real life experiences out there ?
Quote: WHS can not gracefully handle the failure of the system disk (which mine died two days ago). I've found that replacing the system disk to be something that is far harder and more difficult than need be -- and something that may cause you to loose access to your data (unless you regularly backup your WHS server).
I know about and tried the "Server Restore" method to reinstall WHS on a new system disk. Iit went through the restore process, but left me without any access to the undamaged data drives. They are recognized in WHS Console as Server Storage, with the correct total capacity. However, Explorer shows only the data partition of the system disk (~450GB) as the D drive. The 5TB of storage that should have been "recovered" is no where to be found. The USER directories are all listed, but empty.
