ok we've loaded everything from the old Compaq PC onto the mackbook pro
MYOB sent out a new disc 'account edge' as the v19 we had on the compaq desktop is not compatable with apple

I've loaded the disc, set up the company, added all the information like GST no...etc... and can open MYOB ok - will have to re-do all our accounts / invoice templates as apparently the data will not transfer over.
But the main problem is, when I eject the disc from the macbook half the icons in the MYOB folder that I've set up on the desktop disappear.... and when I click on the company name.myo to open myob it comes up asking me to choose an application to open it with.... why is this?? surely it has saved MYOB onto the macbook?
If I re-insert the disc the missing icons come back into the folder and myob opens fine - take the disc out and it doesn't work.

I might call MYOB later when I get home from work, but does anyone know why this might be happening???

Sounds like you've made shortcuts pointing to files on the CD, which of course won't work when the disc is removed.

thanks - when I loaded the disc in I opened up account edge and set everything up and it automatiocally made a folder with all the files / templates in and I just moved that folder to the desktop...
someone else suggested that I haven't actually fully installed MYOB onto the Macbook, and when I opened the file on the disc it didn't ask for a location to save it to or anything, so it's weird

I'll have to phone MYOB later and go through it with them to see what I have done wrong...... thanks

It sounds as though you are running the application directly from the disc, have you dragged it into your applications folder?

no - I haven't.....there were no instructions on how to open / use the disc and it didn't ask me to save the files anywhere.... I'll try that tonight and see what happens.
thanks

When you insert the disc and it appears on the desktop, when you double click the disc does a folder open with the MYOB icon? If it does, open Applications in Finer and drag the MYOB icon into Applications and try running it from there.

Have a look at this http://www.howtogeek.com/177619/how-to-install-applications-on-a-mac-everything-you-need-to-know/

no - when I put the disc in it comes up with a box with 2 big icons 'Account Edge' and 'Applications' (folder icon) and a smaller one underneath 'documents'
I clicked on the Account Edge one and I had to enter my company number, GST number, Licence number...etc... then MYOB opened ok and was usable
I think MYOB installed a folder in my 'documents' - and I moved that folder to the desktop and in that folder it had several folders and icons in there, but once the disc was removed the icons in the folder 'disappeared' - weird

It sounds like you're opening the application from the disc folder. When that folder comes up try dragging the Account Edge app into Applications. If that doesn't work maybe you could post a screenshot?

Wife also said we would have to set everything up from scratch on MYOB on the macbook... I would have thought that we could just upload the files or the latest backup we did on MYOB in the weekend (from the compaq pc onto a memory stick) and it would convert to open in Account Edge on the Macbook?
will double check this with MYOB later

ok - I managed to get it all going
I inserted the disc then clicked and dragged the 'Account Edge' icon into the folder and suddenly it began transferring files / data over.
took the disc out and it worked all ok

only problem is we will have to re set up all the data / files / accounts as the version we had on windows v19 was the full version and we've now got 'account edge basic' - and apparently they are not compatable.
