Does anyone enforce this crazy law, or is it one of the famous Gummiparagraphen [*]? Next door en Autriche there's no problem with doing this, in fact if you asked your boss if it was OK to charge your phone at work they'd look at you as if they expected a small cuckoo to pop out of your forehead on a spring.

 

If you do it without asking the boss, it is simply theft and this can lead to dismissal. And yes, if you want to get rid of employees you don't like, this will indeed be taken to the labour court. People have been dismissed for taking a toilet roll - no lawyer can help because it is still theft and theft is enough for summary dismissal.

In any case it's the only airport I know of where the lounges have Leberkas, Händlmaier Senf, Kartoffelsalat and Bretzen, which makes up for any number of other sins.

We get a tech support email asking "does your product X do Y?". Without getting bogged down in too much detail it's sort of the equivalent of someone asking "does your software do the Internet?", it demonstrates a more or less complete lack of understanding of what it is they're after. I respond to say that you can use it to do some of Y, depending on which of the near-infinite types of Y you're actually after, and let him know, if its name isn't enough, that it's not an end-user application but a framework for system integrators because it's a component of a larger system, not something you can put a UI on and turn into an app.

 

 

So they come back with more or less the same question, this time CC'ing in what I assume are higher-ups in their company. OK, if you want to look bad in front of your boss, yes it will do Y (with the same caveat about depending on which Y you actually want, and that it's not a desktop app).

 

 

Third request, how much is it (again, it's a framework and not a single product and depends on use and whether they need support with integration) and can he download a demo of the app, from memory still CC'd to others.

 

 

I await, but to some extent don't really expect, further communications.

Yes, particularly with the German approach to customer “service.” It largely amounts to being berated to compress the queues because there aren’t enough staff working.

Ironically there are still social distancing stickers on the floor.

It was initially moved to technical because they didn't know what it was the requestor wanted. With the mention of cost it's now gone back to sales.

 

 

Sort of like a cardboard box of slowly melting ice cream where you pass it on to someone else and hope it melts more on them than you.

What is it with joggers? Why do they like to run out into traffic? Is stopping at a crossing really that detrimental to their exercise? Is there something inherent in being a jogger than means they have a lack of self-preservation? Is wearing dark clothing and running into traffic at dusk and risking death really a better proposition than your heart rate dropping for a minute or two?

 

 

 

These are rhetorical questions btw.

Back during the lockdowns, I mean the really early ones that were super strict. I would run down the centre of the road so I could social distance from the runner/walkers that were on both footpaths. There were no cars out on the road so it felt awesome to run down the centre of the road. 

 

I don't advocate for it under normal cricumstances.

What really irritates me is manufacturers putting smarts in dumb devices to force use of "genuine parts". Typically printer ink replacement but recently got stung with my Dell laptop where the battery would not charge even though the laptop worked OK. Replaced the battery and still the same issue - says charging but battery charge did not increase. Found eventually that the plug pack (genuine Dell) had gone faulty and although still gave correct power the chip inside did not tell the motherboard that it was genuine- so charging disabled (only indication was the psu was "unknown" type.)

 

This kind of behaviour is so annoying.
