People who sit in medical (etc) waiting rooms watching video on phones WITHOUT headphones.

Handsomedan:

Went to the supermarket last night on the way home from the movies. It was 8.30(ish) and they're open until 10pm.

Got half a trolley of goods, as we needed quite a bit of stuff.

Not a ingle checkout open. Had to do the self-scan thing, whilst trying to balance all the items in the scale/shelf after scanning. Kept getting the whole "please place the item in the bagging area" alert. One staff member there (clearly for checking ID for booze, or preventing theft), who didn't even glance in our direction.

This was a Countdown. We were paying a premium for our goods and if we hadn't needed them so badly (milk, bread, TP etc) I actually would have just left everything there and walked out.

Complete lack of service, not a single sh!t to give about the customers and still charging through the nose. Disgusting, monopolistic behaviour as you'd expect from them, I guess.

That is pretty crap, but if it happens in the future, to save you balancing a whole load of groceries on the little tray, you are allowed to remove items once the scanner bit goes green. So, fill a bag, remove it and start again.

Given how long it took the local Countdown to switch from the orange lettering to the "apple" logo, I wonder how much longer it'll be before it's Woolworths again...

At 11 i'm not sure how much I am going to get back lol   Im considering deleting every single one of the players he unboxed.  But I am only 30mins into finding out so need to cool down a bit first heh.

Contact Sony in the first instance.  Get calm first. :)

In my opinion there should be a hard limit of $500 expenditure appled by Sony to purchases. Requires additional verification after that.

I believe from talking to others with the same problem they have provided some relief in cases like this.

Had the exact same thing about 4 years ago - buying in-game currency for Fortnite. After finally getting it out of him what he'd done (and that he hadn't been 'hacked'), I spoke to Sony.

They ended up refunding the full amount, but with a very explicit statement that this would be one and only time they did this. They also mentioned how to remove the credit card from the account in case I didn't know how.

Call Sony, and plead ignorance about how all this new-fangled Internet thingy works, and you may be in luck. A significant amount of time off the PlayStation for your son might be in order too :)

I called Sony and got them to remove the credit card as I don't even know how to operate his PS5 let alone get the card removed.   I might try to see about a refund, but in fairness he did use it, so would that be honest?  I know it is just pixels to Sony, but still.

What is frustrating is that I had set up his "kid" account to have a $0 spend limit (when you first set up the playstation it can walk you through some options).  What he did was install his game on the main account instead, the main account is a regular account and cannot have a spend limit attached to it.  Dammit.

It's your call. Whilst I don't disagree he did use it, I seriously doubt he fully understood the value of what he was spending and I honestly believe it would have been reasonable for there to have been a spending limit on this type of purchase, given how often you hear about.

Even if they wipe half, it halves your burden, and they are still making incredible money from it.

Employ more. Pay them more. Or just stop putting up prices and then having a sale which just puts it back to the old price.

Heck, I'd be happy if they paid Billy Connolly / Arnie / (sadly more difficult) Severus Snape to record that, erm, flipping 'unexpected item in the checking area' message.

The other day I took 6 items through the self checkout, and 5 of them required someone to intervene and none of them were restricted items.

I miss plastic bags that used to be able to stretch across the area you could put stuff in, the new re-useable bags don't work nearly as effectively.

I’d also add if this had happened with physical goods you would have had the possibility of taking them back.

No one loses by OP getting refunded. Most reputable game makers build this into their operating model and aren’t scummy enough to feel entitled to keep the money in this situation.

In that case definitely call them, their fig-leaf mechanism is obviously not fit for purpose so they need both pushback from users (which I doubt will have any effect given the amount of money they make from loot boxes) and data on how bad it is for when the government inquiry finally happens. I'd also register a complaint with the relevant government authority, if there is one, to help get it on the radar.

(This is why the EU is moving to regulating loot boxes, although progress has been slow).

Can the game co take back their goods (delete the 'assets')  if they refund?

The worst is when you're working from home and on a Teams/Zoom call and hear that dreaded sound knowing it's likely on carpet and it will be a while until you can get to it to clean it.
