Ge0rge: That net metering is not a thing in NZ. I have returned more power to the grid today than I have used, but I still owe the power company money.

Your commercial power generation lobby is (still) too strong. Keep calm and carry on! It‘s only a question of time. 😉

Is it a "re-stocking fee"? 🙃

Strange election rules.

It seems to me that advance voting is much more popular this time than I’ve ever noticed before.

Yet the rules allow all the election hoardings to be up throughout the advance voting, only requiring them to be removed for the actual polling day.

Try as I might, I fail to see any logic in that.

Tinkerisk:

Another war - it seems as if all the unresolved problems are crumbling out from under the stones at once these days.

I think that one war leads to another. As Ukraine is sapping Russia's strength, so countries previously cowed by Russia are trying their luck (e.g. Azerbaijan vs Armenia). I wouldn't be at all surprised if revolts break out in Chechnya and Georgia. That might even be useful to Putin as a justification for full mobilisation. Presumably the anti-Assad factions in Syria are also weighing up their chances.

I suspect that the same applies in Africa... a bunch of African leaders visits Putin, and within a couple of months they're fighting. Coincidence? I think not.

I don't see a connection to Gaza, although Ukrainian commentators are saying Russia was behind it as a diversion of the West from Ukraine.

Agreed. Although it is a good way to make the losers take it down to force it before the election so they don't know they're the loser at that time.

There's no logic to see - it is an inconsistency left over from the days when there was no such thing as early voting.

And really, does seeing a hording on election day make any difference compared to seeing it the day before election day? Are people goldfish? Hmmm...

Maybe it's the last chance to make sure some candidates remove their hoardings. After they lose their deposit there won't be the same desire to play by the rules.

Having to handwash dishes while at the temp accommodation , as the dishwasher is broken and the handyman has to get parts (but hasn't stated how long that might take).
When the insurance company has paid $17k for 6 weeks of accommodation, you'd think everything would be in working order!

Geektastic: It seems to me that advance voting is much more popular this time than I’ve ever noticed before.

It's more popular than 2017, but isn't reaching 2020 levels.

My personal opinion behind this is that prior to 2020, advance voting was seen by many as "unusual": it was something you did if you weren't expecting to be able to vote on the day. Meanwhile in 2020, with people wanting to avoid crowds, voting was more spread out. That was the first time I did an advance vote, and it ended up being exactly the same as doing a vote on the day. I therefore did the same thing again this year now that I know it's not "scary".

Sorry, what is a microwave trim kit? Are you putting chrome bumpers on it?

Simply put. Yes.

Its a surround so your MW looks built into your kitchen cabinetry.

They are expensive for what is essentially some folded stainless steel sheet.

I giggled.

I had a vision of a microwave with 22" rims and spinners with a hydraulic lift kit like you see on cars in American movies
