Just a heads up, as posted in the Snapper in Semble (discussion and event) thread: confirming that both Miki (Snapper CEO) and Rob (Semble CEO) will be present. This means a unique opportunity to get these two together for some good Q&As folks...

I got a new work phone (Samsung Galaxy S5) this week loaded with a Semble sim and today I set up my cards and made my first transaction, and it was seamless. It's no less onerous than using a physical card, I still had to unlock my phone, open the app, enter a pin and enable my chosen card. But it felt way cooler than pulling a card out of my wallet.

You can set cards to 'always on' and just tap the phone, avoiding a few steps but because I have multiple cards I want to select which one I use for each transaction.

I really liked it and look forward to using it again.

Finally 2degrees support the xperia Z but only on driod 5.0.2 so upgraded..

Have it setup to go but my visa debit/credit card looks like it will only work as a credit card against that account.

Exactly the thing I didnt want. I could have just tapngo my credit card for this, I wanted semble to be able to use my debit account.

Why do they make it so hard.

It is not Semble...

Can you tap and go with a debit card? In any case it goes through the credit cards network so the issuer may have decided not to.

Its a Visa debit card, ASB will do a separate visa debit card on its own I think.

I also seem to remember people on here already doing this.

My semble experience

I recently became aware that my Xperia Z was now semble ready through Vodafone

So I downloaded the Vodafone Semble app from the playstore

then requested a Semble sim online through Vodafone , this arrived in around 3 days via courier free of charge

Proceeded to do the sim swap online , painless

Loaded my ASB credit card ,then the slowest part of the process in my case ,waiting for my credit card to be available in Semble

then today Semble tells me my card is good to go

off to Countdown  made a purchase easy as  very impressed with my experience so far

My semble experience - zero and unlikely to change.  Although I like the idea, and I'm a frequent snapper user. I would have to go and change my SIM card, and last time I did that it was a total cluster... which left me without a (work) phone for three days.

got semble on my phone now. made 2 purchases and it was brillant! just needs more stores which allows paywave feature.

Hopefully Auckland Transport partners up with Semble to get Tag on and off feature

So my experience.

Ordered Semble Sim. Free and took two days to arrive by courier. No one home so had ot go to depot to pick it up. Thats ok - just down the road.

Put SIM in call Vodafone and a few minutes later card is set to go.

Now load card (BNZ VIsa) but  minor problem. I dont have internet banking set up for it. So called BNZ and they had me set up in about five minutes.

Link card to App ( a minute or so) and I'm good to go. Really quite easy and painless.

So went shopping this weekend. Three purchases (Mobil, Countdown and Repco) all worked well. One purchase (Rebel Sports) not so - no Paywave.

So the lack of paywave seems to be the road block.

My suggestion to Semble is to set up a store location on google maps or something that show stores that have a Tap and Go Eftpos terminal. Until then we will have to carry our credit cards with us which makes Semble pointless.

That would not be easy to do IMO, with multiple eftpos vendors in NZ they would need to all share information regarding their clients and their capabilities, im sure that breaches a privacy law somewhere, or their contracts with the stores/sellers.

Don't need Semble to do it. Just download Mastercard Nearby and be done with it...

You could always search for a Visa equivalent.

Even in places that offer it, I have found that paywave is "broken" at bunnings several times. Some checkouts its working, some it is not.

Also, still cant refund thru paywave. Must have cost places a reasonable amount in merchant fees for things bought on visa thru semble and then refunded to the atm card thru eftpos.

Really if a place takes credit cards, they should always take paywave. No "broken" no "chosen to disable it" - its something that the banks need to enforce.

Yesterday I left my wallet at home. Wanted to pay with my phone and seeing the Paywave logo on the terminal I asked "Is your contacless working?" and the reply was... "NO".

Why bother?
