That it’s significantly cheaper to get a roaming eSIM than buy data from NZ telcos. Pricing in NZ is even more expensive than data here in the UAE, where there is effectively a government cartel.

Yup, I pointed that out a while back, which is why I'm using a Telefonica SIM for my WWAN backup.

This is a crazy situation to be in, it's cheaper to buy roaming data from a telco in Spain than any local telco can provide.

Our GP clinic that we've been with for a year bundles charges for all our family members onto the one invoice which makes it impossible to claim health insurance on.

I think the way they work is that they put us all under the one debtor account in their accounting system so if we all go to the docs I simply get an invoice billed to myself with a line each of consultation and a total at the bottom.

Further, their so called "Tax Invoice" does not contain their GST number nor the GST value.  It doesn't include an invoice number, rather includes a "reference" number which I suppose may be the equivalent.  The invoice is dated but there's no indication of the dates of the consultations.

They don't even have a web portal.

How good are they as doctors compared to, say, the guys down the road who have a functional billing system?

GPs are all the same: useless for anything other than asking for a repeat of what a specialist has prescribed you.  So to answer your question, the same.

The difference is that they're taking patients.

I have to take exception to that gross generalisation. Although I don't need to see the doctor often, my GP of many years has always provided excellent and very knowledgeable care. I find him extremely competent and helpful.

That is a disgraceful thing to say. Wildly inaccurate.

That's what you need this for. Project on Github.

I just have 4 analog 2.4GHz video sender modules in a powerbank case. Takes care of everything. I should put an ESP or pi zero in it so it can transmit something useful I guess, but other than that, just the blank carriers do enough to make bluetooth drop out within about 4-5m of it. And its just a powerbank when you look at it.

How do you get to the specialist in the first place?

From a GP who probably should have referred you to one in the first or second instances

Isn't a GP also a specialist? I thought it required years of study, just like all the others. I know my GP has a very broad range of knowledge, which I imagine is necessary in order to be able to make referrals.

Referring does NOT equal getting.

I was "referred" to a neurologist multiple times for my migraines, I ended up paying $600 to see one privately.

Is the same for surgery, the wife's knees are shot, we have been fobbed off for years "To young", "You need to lose weight" , etc etc etc etc, ALL BS excuses to weed out people to meet actual capacity.

Ended up paying a bigger fortune to have one done privately.

NZ simply does NOT have enough GPs and specialists.

Although I disagree with your generalisation later, I do think this whole accounting approach is terrible. If nothing else, surely it’s a breach of patient confidentiality.

Wouldn’t mind betting this approach (lumping, no GST shown, no consultation dates shown, etc) would not be supported by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners. The NZ Medical Council website says: “The College strives to ensure a high standard of care in general practices across New Zealand by setting the standard for quality systems.”

Have you complained to the clinic?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Bought a new Sodastream gas bottle a few weeks ago.

It was in a pink box and I asked if there was any difference. No. Just a colour change, they said.

Just ran out of gas so went to change the cylinder.

Totally different fitting, completely incompatible with our 3 year old machine.
On the box it actually says “For use with Sodastream sparkling water makers” on one side.
