neb: You've got spargel, no taste, no texture, not even colour, just pasty mushy nothing, there's no need to import chokos if you grow the equivalent locally:

I'm very sorry for you. South of the city is one of the largest main growing areas for white, local asparagus and I can only say that it tastes excellent if you know how to treat and cook it properly. In comparison the green asparagus is stronger, more cabbage-like. So here people are fighting for places in the country inns as the season is about to start. It‘s currently about 20€/kg (34 NZD/kg) on the farmer‘s markets.

The first time I went to Germany for Hannover Messe it was white asparagus season and every function we went to was serving white asparagus. I’ve never been so sick of a vegetable as I was at the end of that week.

Well, there's a simple trick: if you have too much, just order something else from the menu. If you were invited, it wouldn't have been a problem to ask for something else in advance. An average restaurant is sure to have 9 other dishes on offer. If it was so terrible for you, why did you eat it?

She had been representing herself at a trial in the Nelson District Court when a judge found her in contempt.

I really don't get sovcits doing anything in courts. The whole sovcit thing is based on the idea that the government, and therefore the courts and everything else they create, is illegitimate and without authority. Why would you argue in a venue that can't have any impact on you? Her very appearance there undermines her entire sovcit posture.

Amazon's so called "checkout free" walk out stores - were not staff less,

They had 1000s of operators in India reviewing the camera footage to determine what you actually left with, and then billing you

And they have now decided the idea is a bust and will now make you scan each item as it goes into your cart or basket....

https://gizmodo.com/amazon-reportedly-ditches-just-walk-out-grocery-stores-1851381116

Amazon is phasing out its checkout-less grocery stores with “Just Walk Out” technology, first reported by The Information Tuesday. The company’s senior vice president of grocery stores says they’re moving away from Just Walk Out, which relied on cameras and sensors to track what people were leaving the store with.

Just over half of Amazon Fresh stores are equipped with Just Walk Out. The technology allows customers to skip checkout altogether by scanning a QR code when they enter the store. Though it seemed completely automated, Just Walk Out relied on more than 1,000 people in India watching and labeling videos to ensure accurate checkouts. The cashiers were simply moved off-site, and they watched you as you shopped.

Instead, Amazon is moving towards Dash Carts, a scanner and screen that’s embedded in your shopping cart, allowing you to checkout as you shop. These offer a more reliable solution than Just Walk Out. Amazon Fresh stores will also feature self check out counters from now on, for people who aren’t Amazon members.

“We’re rolling out Amazon Dash Cart, our smart-shopping carts,” said an Amazon spokesperson to Gizmodo. Amazon confirmed this feature is replacing its Just Walk Out technology in existing stores.

Just Walk Out was first introduced in 2016, presenting Amazon’s biggest and boldest innovation in grocery shopping. The technology seemed incredible, but there were some stumbles. It often took hours for customers to receive receipts after leaving the store, largely because offshore cashiers were rewatching videos and assigning items to different customers. The system of scanners and video cameras in each store is also incredibly expensive.

According to The Information, 700 out of 1,000 Just Walk Out sales required human reviewers as of 2022. This widely missed Amazon’s internal goals of reaching less than 50 reviews per 1,000 sales. Amazon called this characterization inaccurate, and disputes how many purchases require reviews.

“The primary role of our Machine Learning data associates is to annotate video images, which is necessary for continuously improving the underlying machine learning model powering,” said an Amazon spokesperson to Gizmodo. However, the spokesperson acknowledged these associates validate “a small minority” of shopping visits when AI can’t determine a purchase.

Amazon Fresh, the e-commerce giant’s grocery store first launched in 2007, has just over 40 locations around the United States. The company also owns Whole Foods, and many of Amazon Fresh’s experiments are seen as precursors for the large chain.

Meh, the only thing that should be white is the wurst.

Which by coincidence also comes from south of the city, although quite a long way further south.

It was a heavily organised trip with 50 people and set menus. 3/4 of the dishes on offer had white asparagus. It was what it was.

That's a stereotype. Hamburger Weisswurst already existed since the time of the French occupation by Napoleonic troops. We just didn't make so much fuss about the sausage and sometimes used caviar in the sausage for refinement. 😉

Well, I can't comment on the organisational failings of your tour guide - but before I had to choke down a meal, it would be worth it to me to order something from the menu. But I've never had to do that or to complain in 45 countries around the world, not even with roasted insects, which the host offered me as a delicacy, beaming with delight.

Perhaps my culinary experiences, which include Noma and Nopi, are also too undemanding? Oh well, then there are those of which it is said that „what the simple farmer does not know, he does not eat.“

I'm not sure you understand what a set menu means.

I'm not sure whether you see independent action as destiny or opportunity. But that’s not my problem.
