Gunwash is less than petrol + open flame, chlorine trifluoride (considerably) more so.

Rexona do a spray on non-staining deodorant that never seems to stain any of my shorts, not even my gym shirts.

I find the secret is to spray it on, let it dry and then put my shirt on.

I've tried the American model of always wearing an undershirt.  Too hot.

I gently rub in a small amount of Vanish powder, allow to sit for a few minutes and machine wash using pre-soak cycle and wash with cold water. Check stain removing before drying. If the stain is still present repeat.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Think I've done one round of rexona. Then lynx non marking

But in either case have ended up with white/black marks on blue/dark shirts. Presumably from bleaching and lack of stopping beforehand

As collars often cop it with wearing jackets or lanyards against the neck where you dont apply too.

And try avoiding white, as can never keep them that way regardless of non marking claims :)

Also have fundraising costumes, and each time I have to opt for drycleaning now and then as there is visible marks appearing, get told off.

It's apparently letting any sweat/product dry that does it. No all day or multi day wearing with some shirts without punishment it seems :/

Individual physiology/diet/whatever must make a difference.  I regularly wear shirts, multi day without any staining.  Even my tramping gear which I sweat like pig in has no staining.

I have the same experience, very little to no staining and I jump between all sort of different brands/products of deodorants (including switching between roll-on and spray) without noticing any differences. I do wear a fresh shirt every day though (although as you say tramping gear I do sometimes wear for a few day at a time and no issues there either). Wash with cheap washing powder (Surf brand and the like) too. YMMV.

So an update to this.

I did an overnight soak in oxi-action, with a bit of a scrub - some shirts required a couple of soaks since it was well ingrained, but it seems to be mostly removing the build up. There are a couple which have dye issues, so presumably just poor quality shirts/shirts have just worn out and need to be replaced.

I'm trying a different deodorant again to see how we go with that, but suspect it'll just be a process of having to continually go through this soaking process etc.

I think part of my issue is that I have to do clothes drying inside on an airing wrack, whereas, I recall not having this many issues years ago when i was able to hang clothes outside, perhaps the natural bleaching from the light etc. was helpful.

Either way... making some progress... thanks for all the tips

The other possibility is that back then they used carcinogenic CFC BPA PFAS [*] to make deodorant whereas now they use dew-picked natural eco-chemicals to try and do the same thing, and those just don't work as well. Or at all in the case of products like detergents.

[*] Or at least parabens, pthalates, and other stuff.
