But do they ship to NZ, if if so what is the shipping? Shoes I buy local, as you can take them back if you have a problem with size, or if they break prematurely

Unless it's Nike.  I've discovered that the retailer will just get aggro and tell you that isn't going to happen if you take back prematurely broken Nike shoes. Won't be buying that brand again (and sure as hell not from Foot Locker - worst service EVER).

Individual stores will usually try to fob you off but if you stick to your guns at get the contact details for head office and work through their process from there you will get a better result.

I purchased some Hush puppies for work from Hannahs in January but by July they were falling apart, these had only light usage eg: mon-fri, drive to work, desk job in office, brief walk at lunch etc.

Took them back to the store they said "normal wear and tear" I said no way $150 shoes aught to last more than 6 months of light usage, got the head office number from them.

Rang head office, they sent out a courier ticket to send them back for inspection asked me to write a description of the problem. I wrote a fairly standard note basically saying: shoes costing x should last longer than y when used for z - not fit for purpose etc..

They agreed and sent me a cheque for the price of the shoes, this is what the fear of the CGA and disputes tribunal is for.

Don't forget it was Adidas that moved to have New Zealand dropped from the list of countries online retailers would ship to, not the local NZ retailers.

alexx: Just don't be one of those people that try them on in the local shop and then order on-line. That's not fair on the retailer that takes time to help you selecrt the shoes, but if you already know what you want, why pay for an expensive shop and a big mark up?

Edit: fixed typos.

Agree, but many big box retailers don't help you try on shoes these days anyway. I have always purchasd my shoes locally, but due ot the exchange rate I may get some cheaper online. I usually just by the same brand (asics) and model of shoe, so can be assured of the right size each time.

To throw the cat amongst the pigeons....

Adidas is a supporter of the NZRU, to the tune of $200 Million over 5 or 7 years from memory. While there is an issue with the pricing overall, and of offshore purchases, I expect some portion of the sale price is a recovery of the sponsorship?

If it is was possible to reverse the $200 Million sponsorship, and the shirts sold for $69.95, the public would be happy, but the NZRU who we haven't heard from (for some reason...) wouldn't be.

I am sure there is some relationship with this whole issue.

$200 million NZD over 5-7 years is nothing when their annual profit is $1.2 billion NZD ($684 million Euro)!

Adidas reported on August 5 it expected earnings per share growth of 15% in 2011 on a 10% rise in sales. It expects profits to be as high as 684 million euros (NZ$1.2 billion) this year. It expects a gross profit margin of 48% of sales and an operating profit margin of 7.5% to 8% this year.

You have to be borderline retarded to support Adidas when the cost of producing a Jersey is $8 NZD and they are retailing them for $220 NZD.

No brand is worth that mark up imo!

$200 million in a market like NZ is a huge amount....

And its your chocie at the end of the day to buy their products. If you don't want to dont. I'm just buying a black t-shirt for $5 and using twink to write all blacks on it ;)
