Just being dumb, but if you are not there at the same time as the other person, why can't you just have two different cards? If they won't even trust you not to park two cars there, I would seriously question working with them!

This is illustrative of the kind of BS that I do not miss being away from the Matrix...

roobarb: If the proximity card can be cloned by anyone other than the issuer or delegated authority then it is by definition an insecure system.

Most prox cards are exactly that, they just transmit an ID. And you can probably usually clone them at a small-ish distance away (if they are the lower frequency cards for sure).
Even the more secure HID iCLASS can be abused as they don't bother to change encryption keys around the world and someone dumped the firmware from a card and found the encryption key.

Thank you for all your comments.

Can anyone put me in touch with someone who can actually help me in this matter and clone my card for me?

Thanks.

As has been mentioned above, you will need to provide a picture of the card and reader.

Where in NZ are you?

This is not a type of service one advertises too often, given you're asking someone to essential breach the terms and conditions of your car parking service.  It may not be illegal, but it's certainly not squeaky clean either.

We feel your pain though.  This sounds like a classic lack of flexibility type situation, either via the operators, or via the software they are using.

Judging by the history it seems like the car park used to be flexible and the system was abused, so don't blame the company for others ruining the system. They are a car park, two different people, two different cars, two different cards for two different accounts.

The OP is paying a weekly/monthly fee for one (not "dedicated") space in the building, for which the operator issues an access card.  If OP gets a second card the parking service operator will charge him a second fee, which OP shouldn't have to pay as he never parks two vehicles in the building at the same time; he just wants to be able to choose which vehicle he parks at any time.

No, he wants he or his wife to park two different cars at different times which they currently do by sharing the card.

Thanks guys for all the input. Let's call it a day and close this topic.

I will go back and see if I can find the contract I signed 18 years ago and see whether it is specific to a particular car, in which case I am breaking it by giving my wife the card when I am not using it. If that is true (it is specific to a single car) then I would be breaking the contract by trying to clone the card.

Once again thanks for all the feedback (and sympathy - if only you knew the monthly fee which they are about to increase by 40%!)

I don't see how cloning the card would actually work. Any well implemented access system (and I've seen this with a number of systems while working at sites with card access systems for carparks) would refuse to open the barrier again to go in when it deemed that card has been used for a prior entry buy had not exited the building. Likewise if it was used to exit the carpark it would refuse a 2nd car out using the same card until it had detected a new entry. I would assume this is a fairly standard setup.

I understand the issue to be something like: one card which person A uses on Monday/Wednesday, person B uses on Tuesday/Thursday but currently card has to keep swapping between person A and person B which is awkward/annoying.
In this scenario cloning would work.

I use a carpark that uses Proximity cards for entry and exit, and what the OP wants makes perfect sense.
The system will only allow one entry, and one exit (as many times as you like, but cannot have two consecutive events of the same type).

The machine has the proximity scanner around the 'mouth' of where you would insert a paper ticket, and you hold a credit card sized plastic card flat against it for about 2 seconds.

Auckland Council carparks use them (I have a park in the Downtown car park, my prices aren't rising, but I only have overnight and weekend parking in there).
I think Auckland Airport has the same machines. I could not find any pictures.

Edit. I don't remember if the terms of my contract state I cannot park another car in there, but I did have to supply Registration details of the car (and they provided a window card which I never installed).
