I'd love to get my hands on a few of these sets second hand, my Daughter is keen to try the Technics Lego Batmobile we saw the other day.

If anyone has any of these bigger more complex kits they would be prepared to sell for a reasonable price, I'd be keen potentially.

I'm keen to do one with my son and daughter (total 2).

The pirate ship you can see in my cabinet is a good for a few people to build together - its a Creator 3 in 1, so you can actually build 3 different things with the pieces (one at a time). Think it goes for around $130 new. I actually picked up a 2nd set so I can build the tavern for it.

Cool. Do you have the code for it? Something that can be made into more than 1 thing is attractive to me.

I have been considering building a Lego train layout. These are flexible so one can change the layout at any time. It would be great to have it traveling around our deck during summer

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

To give some idea of the different sizes of vehicles. Toyota Supra being over shadowed by the Senna and Rubicon

Help me understand where Lego has changed over the years

When I was a kid you had standard Lego bricks. They came in multiple colours and a few standard sizes and you used your imagination to make stuff with them. You could make almost anything you wanted, when finished tear it down and make something else. The possibilities were endless.

These days it seems you buy a kit and in that kit you are given everything you need to make one item? What do you do then, display it? Where's the replay ability in that? Where does imagination come into it?

As mentioned, you can still do that.  My nephew will build a kit as per the instructions, then almost immediately pull it apart and turn it into something completely different using the bricks from that set and any others he has handy.

From personal experience, I used to do that as a kid also, taking the base model and enhancing it from the ever increasing collection.  Now, as an adult, I will grab themed kits of interest and build them for display (or leave them in their boxes because I haven't had the time and have two kittens who would love to "help"/eat the smaller pieces).

One thing I keep meaning to do is convert the left hand drive Porsche 911 kit to Right hand drive.

I was fortunate enough as a kid to have grandparents who would buy me lego kits. Police, FireStations etc. I would build them, play with them, then tear them down, making the biggest space craft with prisons, and vehicle docks etc. My son got into lego early but it's taken him quite a while to branch into making his own stuff, I am starting to see his creative side now, which is really cool.

I’ve got a few sets that fancy my eye, picked up both Simpsons sets, the Death Star, mos Easley cantina, razor crest, voltron and some other Star Wars sets.

my favourite though is the mega construx (Mattel’s block toys) version of He-man and Castle Greyskull, looks absolutely awesome in person. Got some of the matching smaller sets that have come out as well, along with the Mega figures (which are basically fantastic wee action figures).

Not since I was about 14 when angled blocks for house roofs were about the height of sophistication.

Currently got a 1980's powered centre-rail Lego train layout set up on dining table "for the grandkids". Bought it when our kids were young and it's been in storage for a while. Had to replace the perished rubber tyre covers - used cycle innertube offcuts. Unfortunately we have lost one single curved outer rail piece of track, so I can't set it up with an inner and outer loop sadly.

Picked a LOT of Lego a couple weeks ago from a local garage sale, just went and cleared an entire table load at same sale today. Oops. :D Still lots left though, mainly Lego City and Lego Star Wars.

There are a few YouTube channels that show really large layouts. One guy has it going all around the inside of his house them right our through the garden. I not wanting to go that big but certainly around our deck.

Ha I'm sure I had that same set when I was a kid.

Edit. Are their instructions available online for historic sets?

There are at least some here:

https://lego.brickinstructions.com/

You might just need to google though, I'm not certain if there's an official source.
