RodDrury: Rod here from Xero.

We don't monitor this forum. Best to comment on our blog or community.

However ...

We don't comment on specific customer disputes.

But of course we have a rigorous dispute process in place which we have worked with external legal advisors on. It's an interesting issue and we've invested a lot in establishing a process consistent with the legal framework.

These situations can be quite complex and often the situation is often much less clear than one side would portray. Hence why there is a dispute.

We don't act as a judge, we need to obey the legal framework and dispute procedures.

I understand this dispute is in this process and all parties have been communicated with.

Won't be responding further on this.

Rod

I guess we are only hearing one side of this story. My feeling would be that in all cases the contract should be with the company in which case the legal authorities could be confirmed with the companies office who would be the final decision makers on that authority (well at least implement any relevant court rulings etc.)

Yesterday we gathered data for our lawyers which included signed bank feeds, bank statements & invoices Xero send us. Everything containing our company name, not the subscribers name.
The fact the invoice is made our to the company and not the subscriber would surely make you think the Company is the legal authority.

I'd be happy to pay $5 to subscribe and read the story, but they want $100 for a 6 month membership.

that's the major flaw in Xero accounting, lack of security and ownership transfer. Also there aren't detailed logs so he could very well be changing things, making payments, without you knowing. Im pretty sure it only logs the log in user and time of log in, not the actual activities carried out.

Logically there can be no reason why the email address should be remotely relevant.

Assume it to be the equivalent of where you send a letter. Big Widget Ltd open their account at 1234 High Street Anytown.

3 years later they move to 4567 Aynothertown.

Does anyone who had their former address as a point of contact then refuse to deal with anyone not in the old office forever? NO. They just change the address once proper authority from Big Widget is received.

Why should an email address be any different? Surely the client is Big Widget, not some email address created some years previously?

Completely illogical in my view.

Perhaps you should insist that Xero send their invoices to the former Director..

For goodness sakes. What rubbish.

Everything in Xero is recorded and underneath each document there is full History and Notes.

If you have real questions and issues comment in our community and blog where Xero staff monitor activity.

Do you by any chance actually USE Xero?

When giving out information it's better to be certain than "pretty sure".

Does Xero have a way to display a log of the user activity?
Eg. I see xero shows the info below the invoice like who created it, but is there a way to say pick user "John" and see something like

1/1/2010 13:32 User John Create Invoice 01101 ClientName $1233.23
1/1/2010 13:45 User John Add Payment Invoice 01928 ClientName $120 Cash
1/1/2010 13:52 User John Delete Invoice 09983 ClientName
1/1/2010 13:55 User John Add Payment Invoice 09283 ClientName $43.23

Like a log rather than having to pick on individual items to query. If not, Rod this would be a free feature suggestion for auditing purposes.

Relax, you get plenty of good press coverage in the media every other week. People are entitled to discuss this here if they wish, and there is no expectation that your crew will be monitoring this or acting upon anything posted here.

What it does show is that the virtual /cloud world can sometimes be difficult to deal with, and people need to know.

I just read the piece on NBR and it's a good read.

I hope an acceptable solution to both parties comes out soon.

Off topic, but how do you even fire a director? Of all the companies I've ever been involved with, I've never heard of such a thing!

Unfortunately it is behind a paywall and you have to be a subscriber to view, and they don't have a way to just pay for one article.

The NBR piece basically reproduces the start topic in this thread, but goes into details of the identity of the company and directors.
