To the OP

If you would like to PM me so I can get some accurate info from you I will talk to the guys in operations to see what can be done about this issue.  It's probably incorrect in one of the sort plans.

(on contract at NZP at the moment)

As a thought, the Post monitor for things with your address will indeed pick up things being sent to you, but it wouldn't pick up things with a different address that still end up in your letterbox.

If that make sense.

eg, Monitor is placed on address: 123 Some Street.

Everything for that address will get checked as part of the monitor.

Mail to address: 123 Someother Street won't get picked up by that monitor as it's not the address in question.

It does, however, end up in the delivery pile with your postie and delivered to your address for the reasons mentioned earlier in the thread.

I've been in my house for nearly 10 years now.  and it was untenanted for at least a year, if not longer prior to my purchase.  I'm still getting mail addressed to unknown persons at my address.  RTS or direct contact with senders for the first couple of years.  Now I file them in a large red "box" that is emptied weekly.
While that may contravene the Legislation mentioned earlier, it would be unlikely to stand up in court after this sort of time period.  That's assuming the intended recipients care enough to challenge it, which, clearly, they do not.

I’ve rung such senders a few times, one was for a drivers licence and the govt debt asked me to open the mail to verify

You're not on Atlantis anymore, Duncan Idaho.

jpoc:

You guys should be a little more careful about what you suggest. That is unlawful.

I know this because I had a similar problem. Some woman was having all of her trademe purchases sent to her name at my address. I was sending everything back to the sender but she did not stop. It went on for weeks and I suspect that she was coming on to my property during the day to retrieve her parcels from my doorstep. A few times she even went so far as to come round in the evening and ask if there was any post for her.

Eventually, three large items that would not fit in a street postbox arrived on the same day so I took them in to the police station near my work and explained the problem. I pointed out that I was concerned that perhaps some of the items were illegal. I asked what my options were, specifically I asked if it was OK to bin them. The officer with whom I was speaking said that binning misdirected post was not legal and that if I did that and the woman made a complaint to the police then they would prosecute me.

great to see the constabulary being so helpful and focusing on the important issues.

As an aside, when she came onto your property seeking her mail, did you ask her why she was using your address instead of hers?
