To confirm, orders are charged in Australian currency? If so is there talk of charging in NZD down the line?
From their website: "All prices on amazon.com.au are shown in Australian dollars."
Doesn't appear they allow NZ affiliates to sign up on the OZ store which is odd.

When did Australian companies cover the CGA?
well the Australian version is basically the same as ours so it probably doesn't matter you would be protected either way... Unless I'm missing something

So if they don’t play ball, who do you complain to for redress? And what jurisdiction would the likes of NZ small claims court or commerce commission have over an Aussie company? By the same token, would the ACCC care about NZ complaints when they can’t even cope with their domestic ones?

Amazon seems to be happy that NZ's taxation laws apply to them, so it would seem strange that they would choose to be exempt from the CGA.
In my experience in the past, CGA has never come into the equation for purchases from Amazon. They've always offered an acceptable redress for any issue I've ever had well before it got to that.

Not somewhere I will be shopping at. I vehemently dislike Amazon/Bezos employment and business ethics.
Everyone to their own I guess. I find Amazon quite good.
I think "quite good" is relative until you try working there... I care about how people are treated and won't support businesses found to be lacking...

You may not actually want to use that, even if they did implement. i.e. if they quote in NZD, then Amazon are doing the FX conversion. If they quote in AUD, then your credit card is doing the conversion. In my experience with the US site, using your credit card is better. If I have the choice of USD or NZD on the US site, I choose USD and let my credit card do the FX.

I guess they employ people based on the employment laws of the territory they trade in unlike some of the new arrivals here who treat their staff like slaves. Seems to come from a certain continent. Another one before the courts last week.

Why? They aren't "happy" to pay tax. They are obligated to pay tax. They aren't obligated to follow the CGA.
How are they obligated to pay NZ GST? Surely this is only due to NZ tax legislation? So if they have chosen to comply with tax legislation, why would they choose not to comply with the CGA? Surely NZ law either applies to them, or it doesn't - you don't get to choose which bits of legislation you comply with (as some NZ retailers have found out to their cost)

Unless there was some sort of reciprocal agreement with Australia on consumer rights coverage like IRD and MSD have with many counties I doubt the CGA would apply.
Handle9:
There is no NZ entity from which to seek enforcement for a CGA claim.
NZ tax law does apply as every import to NZ is subject to gst. Amazon collect that tax on your behalf as they are obligated to.
So what would happen if Amazon said "sorry, we're not paying GST, NZ"? There is no NZ entity from which to seek redress, surely?
