Geektastic: I can’t think of anything that happens here that many world news organisations would find it terribly necessary to pay to report.
Surely the A&P shows😁

There was a wedding as well.

They aren't interested in the news.
They are interested in keeping you on their platform to drive revenue and this is one way to do it.

Radio has a very different, and much cheaper, business model. Radio stations generally remain profitable unless they fill them up with "stars."
Places like Newstalk are making hay off the huge growth in "boomer" retirement... Every second Ad is for a "luxury residential village" in salubrious places like Milford or Orewa :)
And for those not quite their yet the other ones are all about "profiting through property investment"....
They've probably got a few more years to run very happily , but in the long term (20-30yrs) its a declining market....
It is ironic that radio in NZ is still so successful financially, considering NZ still doesn't have DAB like the UK for example. IMO it is only a matter of time before RNZ has advertising.
freitasm:MikeB4: ... They last time I checked maybe a year ago it was mostly rubbish.
Oh, I have news for you (no pun intended).
It hasn't changed.
If it has changed in any way, it has only changed for the worse. See below ...

DAB was trialled here a few years ago but was never looked at as a serious option. I believe it had something to do with the population being sparsely distributed over a geographically challenging country, compared to somewhere like the UK (which is mostly fairly flat by comparison).

I always thought DAB was satellite driven? If so wouldnt that be a plus for NZ?

I think it's terrestrial based not satellite.
With the statement of 'moving to digital delivery' I wouldn't be surprised to see the terrestrial broadcasts of THREE in the future go dark. That will leave us with two channels (we don't really count PRIME now, do we?)
Check out my LPFM Radio Station at www.thecheese.co.nz - Now on iHeart Radio, TuneIn and Radio Garden

And a rodent in a supermarket.
Maybe our rodents need to be bigger?

Radio in NZ is not successfully financially, at least not any more. There are only two major commercial operators; Mediaworks is on the brink of collapse despite having strong brands and the majority of the audience share, and NZME will be in major trouble when their rapidly aging audience shuffle off their mortal coil.

RNZ's charter forbids advertising except for a few select entertainment related podcasts. That charter is politically untouchable even by a right wing government. If you need evidence of that then just look at the massive outcry when RNZ's management tried to move Concert off the FM band.

Bigger enough to be, hmmm, unusually sized, perhaps?
iPad Pro 11" + iPhone 15 Pro Max + 2degrees 4tw!
These comments are my own and do not represent the opinions of 2degrees.

Isn't Sky One supposed to be just the best thing? (insert sarcasm thingie). I have never watched it since Prime fell into the hands of the evil empire.
