Just seeing if anyone knows how businesses that rent equipment (camera equipment for example) handle insurance. It doesn't seem to fall under customers contents policy because they don't own the item, and I can't seem to get anywhere with insurance companies in terms of them insuring it while people rent it.

I see Rubber Monkey for example state:

"Insurance cover is mandatory. We cover rental hire up to $6000 of equipment with a 10% charge ( ex GST ) but beyond this we encourage larger camera kits to seek insurance quotations and cover from established industry specialty brokers.

The 10% charge is a premium and an excess of $750 for each and every loss/damage still applies."

I wonder if they just stock pile 10% from every rental and self-insure with it. Except for equipment valued at over $6,000.

Any thoughts at all would be great, thanks :)

Are you trying to go direct to the insurance companies or through a broker?

So far direct to insurance companies and one broker. It was a broker I tried a while ago (over a year) but lately I've been thinking of looking into all this again and trying to get something off the ground.

I'll have a look around for more brokers to try :)
