This is probably quite specific to my but I thought I would mention it.

Tried to buy an item from TigerDirect. I used my US credit card and gave my US billing address but Youshop's shipping of course.

Then a few days later received a call from TigerDirect wanting to verify the order. They had no issue with the billing address since they had called my US phone number attached to the credit card (which rings on my cellphone here) but had issues with Youshop. They asked me what the company name was and I said Youshop. After a few minutes on hold they came back and said they could not locate it. When asked what it was I said it was a freight forwarder and provided the phone number Youshop provides its users. Another 5 minute wait and the news that nobody answered the phone - it went to VM. So they could not process the order. So I had to tell them to ship to my billing address where my friend would have to now go to the Post Office and send it to me.

They were calling at about 12:30pm PST on a Tuesday which is normal business hours so it's surprising and disappointing that nobody was there to answer the phone,

On reflection, despite the hassle for my friend, it will probably end up cheaper since the item is a CPU and Youshop would charge $17.5. But my friend could probably stuff it in a USPS Global Priority Bag for about $12. And no petrol charges since he drives a BMW i3 electric car :-)

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

Doesn't sound like a Youshop fail - I don't remember seeing them state they will answer the phone to verify shipping details?

It sucks for you yes - but I think you might be expecting more than what Youshop offer for $17.50.

Separate billing and shipping addresses tend to kick in anti-fraud checks in most places.

I'm not sure no-one answer a single phone call justifies calling this a youshop fail. It's a warehouse. They should probably answer the phone, but there could be just one office person who's out at lunch. The main failure is with tiger direct.

When I bought my Lytro camera, Lytro checked with me, via email, about the shipping address being different, but I replied and said it was OK, I was aware of it and I am clearly the cardholder.

They shipped it.

But then US$ went up against the Kiwi and the value of my item went over YouShop's limit.......and they refused to handle it.

Be very careful ordering anything remotely close to youShop's NZ$2,499 limit. They drop it like a hot rock when it arrives: "would you like us to return it, destroy it or forward it to some other US address via regular post?"

Seems reasonable - "this item is really expensive, would you like us to destroy it?"

Lol that's what I thought. Please, $2500 is nothing to me.

If tiger direct did send to youshop addresses previously I am pretty certain your actions would have added to the blacklist as they can be quite touchy about freight forwarders.

I'd be interested in the specifics of the destruction process, hopefully that really expensive item isn't just trashed but given a proper send off.

I thought "destroy it" is actually YouShop code for "give it to someone in our Customer Services department who has taken a liking to it".
